It aint a winchester, but it's good enuff for the farm I'd say. Load it up, hold the trigger down and pump away, fires with each pump like the original 97.

the same chinese company also makes a copy of the 1887 (?) winchester Lever shotgun ..... apearently they are the ONLY legal more-than-one-or-two-at-a-time (repeater) shotguns that can be sold in Australia...... where they sell them by the ute load..... (that's ausi for 'pickup' mate):) the local opinion seems to be"good enough" for the job....:)

The first 2 generations of Norinco 97's had their problems.. Luckily (and mainly because of) Cowboy Action Shooting enthisuasts and the huge demand had the Chinese bring over one of the US's most expereinces winchester 1887/1897 smiths who really worked his ass off getting Quality control to where it should be with these guns. While thay arent "Tuned" out of the box, they work pretty darn well, and with a little attention from a Smith who knows what he's doing can be brought into "Smooth as Glass" range pretty easily. My own 97 is an origina, and TIRED..i'll be replacing it with one of Cap's tuned models for Matches pretty soon...in Fact that's what i'll probably use my "Rebate" from the IRS for this year. CoyoteCap.com should be the link for the match-grade models IIRC. VERY nice guy, but genreally up to his hips in work lately.

I bought the "trench gun" model, works like a champ, have had zero problems, it took a bit to get the stiffness out of it, but it wore in quite nicely, where the action is much smoother then it use to be............and just like the original, you can hold back the trigger and work the slide, for that "oh ****, we are being over-runned scenario"

....the only thing I would strongly advice you, is to keep you hand low on the neck of the stock, when that bolt comes back, it leaves a nice gash on the top of your thumb.

Original 1897 in good shape,,,,800-1000. If you just want a replica that does function well, 200 bucks ant too bad.I got my original from a pawn shop for 125(in 1990's). From all I have seen and heard about them pick it up,its worth the money.:)

I have an original '97 trench gun, takedown model. Works great. Very little wear on it. Even a "slicked up" (read FINISHED) Norinco is crap compared to an original. I don't have to worry about what kind of steel they may have used, or if there's an undetected crack in it from little to no QA at the factory.

Plus:

Norinco is OWNED by the Chinese Military. I'll avoid funding them as much as I can.

I have a riot gun take down version of the M97 (original) that formerly belonged to a police department. The stock still has the PD name stenciled on it. It has been fun to shoot. I once took it to the trap range and shot 24 out of 25. I Had to shoot real quick though. I just had to prove to the other guys that a long barrel was not absolutely necessary. The short barrel is a handycap but sure makes it easy to swing the gun.

I've got one of the norinco 97 copies -trenchgun-. They are actually supposed to be made out of pretty good steel .
As KpdPipes said the early ones had plently of problems but the recent ones aren't bad. Even have walnut stocks (the walnut is from missouri).
Mine came with the action fairly tight. You need to firmly cycle it's action for it to work. But it does work.

I just bought 5 of these guns from Aim Surpluss. Some of the actions are very smooth and a couple were pretty stiff. The "rough" actions are easily smoothed out with the talents of a competent gunsmith. The American walnut wood looks pretty good. The guns do "slam fire" just like the original 97s. I think that for a couple hundred bucks, they're a great bargain.

Does anyone know where I can find a Norinco M97 trench gun? I haven't seen one on GB or anywhere else for awhile. I would love to pick one of these up.

Save for a REAL '97. There are about a dozen listings over on Gunbroker for them right now! You won't regret it. 100% to Winchester specs. It will APPRECIATE in value. You won't need to work on it to get it the way you want it.
