We have been busting ass doing .50's and 1928's. I wont bore anyone with another M3HB pic but I thought id post some of one of the 1928's. Bluing these things are a *****. They sure turn out nice when you are done but DAMN it takes a while. Ill be off the grid going to Annual Training with the Guard for a couple weeks. I figured I post a little gun porn before I go.. I played with some steel wool on the brass a bit but didn't go nuts with it. Maybe one day I'll have time to build mine.......
That does look nice! I don't know if it's a no-no for use during blueing, but have you ever tried the maroon 3M super fine pads?
I LOVE those things. They far outlast steel wool, are no where near as messy an d hold together well. I even wad one up and stuff it in a home made mandrel for inside tubes and such.
May I ask how much time got burned into that jacket? I tried rust bluing once on a golf ball launcher over three days. Screw that. It's Parked now instead.
LMAO!
Sorry, but it's apparently not for me.
Ruggy I didn't keep tabs on the exact amount of days. I just know it is a PITA and takes 5 times longer than I anticipated. There may be a trick that old heads use to make it faster. If so I wished I knew what it was. The metal used in these things are not consistent either. The parts made by Colt react one way and the Argentine parts another. The Argentine machinist couldn't read a micrometer either. (Maybe it was in English or something)
Well, you have far more patience than I do, Robert. As you know, I don't do the actual rust bluing myself, just all the metal prep. It's way too much work, but my guy spends a week to ten days on a gun, 8 to 10 times through the application and carding process. It's very labor intensive, without question. Back in those old days, labor was cheap, so nobody cared about things like time and cost, lol. Will have another sample of a rust blued water cooled gun here this week, just detailing all the in-the-white internal components at the moment. Nicely done your yours, my friend.
I have a few more we are bluing now. My plan is to have all the 1928's done and gone before the summer ends. I am going to move on the the AN-M2 .30's next.
Not to be a pain in the butt, but ive been wanting to get to the range with mine, plus a buddy of mine is beginning to doubt I really have one coming. Any time frame or update would be great. Thanks!
That does make a beautiful piece! Some day I'll have to add one to the arsenal, my half-track is just screaming for one more browning and it should be a water cooled!
Robert can you let the rest of us know when the builds are going to be complete?
Thanks,
Mike
