I'm new to the 1919's and will slowly clog this server up with my relentless quest for advice. What ammo links do I need to use, and where do I find them. They will be for an ORF 1919a4, .308 chambered. Thanks in advance.

Info for the new guy...

:D Stranger,

I am not sure what level of comfort your at with the 1919, but this and others will say... HEADSPACE, HEADSPACE, HEADSPACE. Read up on it and there should be a video somewhere (however since the site crashed and no backup was made i think you need youtube for this). You dont need any fancy tools and even though the lock up method is easy, works, and you use a flat head screw driver, make sure your barrel lock spring is modified from the izzy style to the USGI style if not it can move out of place and then the HEADSPACE would be all wrong and BOOM your kit parts and time invested went to hell  so my point here is to HEADSPACE and when you can HEADPSACE in your sleep then you should nervous about firing your gun...lol:p Did I scare you...

Re: Links

I went to a gunshow yesterday in Orlando, FL and had a dealer give me abag of what he said were 1919 .308 links. I dont think that they are the right links because they are unmarked and fit way too tight on the cartridges. I'll go with the OOW and split an order with a buddy for the correct links after I get a rivet kit. Another dealer was selling a 1919A4 kit without the sideplate in a 80% condition for $850.00. I passed on that deal & quickly moved on.

Thanks for the info. I was just reading the sticky's on info for beginners like me. Very helpful! I have played with various belt guns while in the military, and must admit, I got complacent at times. That is, until I saw a MK19 blow up. Now, I check everything before the trigger is pulled, on all my toys. I'm not building but plan on buying an ORF 1919. Are they any good?

Go to Oow buy a grade a kit for 399 buy a rsp machine your internals and get trigger etc at the same time get your rivets and talk to PIRATE on here for a cheapo bucking bar set he sells. Thats a good start once your ready with all of this come back and ask more questions :D

I'd recommend you go with John B. McGuire. Get a good kit from OOW or Cole Distributing and send it to John to build for you. That will give you a much better piece with a guarantee you can count on. ORF used to have a good reputation around here, but they tanked it pretty well. :(

!st build

Unless there is some reason for not wanting to have the right sideplate go thru a FFL, I would recommend the OOW semi kit. Everything you need is included, and you have only one place to call if something dosen't work.

That's what I did for the first one, everything went together and it worked the 1st time out, only problem was adjusting the trigger pull, and OOW walked me thru that over the phone. There seems to be an ongoing controversy on this site about disposing of "home built" (so-called 80% sideplate)1919's. Having a 1919 with a 100% sideplate with a real serial number and manufactuer's name would make that problem , if it is a problem, go away.

If it were me i'd get a nice kit, a 100% RSP and have John McGuire put it together for you. You're not going save much by doing it yourself and you'll have something that is readily tranferable and recognized as quality made.

BTW, Tom T. is selling 100% RSP for $150.
