I have been tossing around the idea of building, or retrofitting an AR with a flat top. Eyes are not what they should be and iron sites are for younger folks. I got my Grizzly woodworking catalog the other day and they got a "hand held night vision monocular IR tech two power 200-300ft range,F1.2lens obj and 15deg FOV on sale for $199. I am sure its been asked here but search is a no worky (?) so I am asking can one of these be made to work on a rifle if you used an EOTech or some other unit with it? I am on the cheap and its little more than a toy for me. Any thoughts on this guys? THanks, Hotch

. I had a ATN night scope one of my AR's once. It can be shot in the day with a cover over the end of it, but if sunlight hit it or even got close it would shut off. It has to be low light or dusk to sight it in. You will also need a riser so that the front sight is not in the way, and even with a 3/4 riser it still is in line of sight. There is no good way to explain what your shooting at in the dark to the fish and game man either. I sold mine before i got in trouble. I was invited to every night time coyote hunt. There is nothing other than a raccoon that you can shoot at night in kentucky. Was fun for a while and looked great by my surefire and green laser. That is true about what you pay to what you get. You will need a Infra Red source for totel darkness or no moon. All that said it still rocks to lay there in the dark and see everything that can't see you. It makes you feel two foot taller. Buy extra batteries because you will have it out every night for a week.

I bought an ATN 330 from Sportsmans Guide. $364.00 shipped. I had it on my MP5SD. :D Works neat. But I will get an IR source for dark nights.
Then Valley Firearms and I worked a deal for a night owl monocular with built in IR.. That thing is slick.. I love being able to see things that go "bump" in the night.

I understand what your saying but then again, I doubt it would be much worse than trying to explain the 30 round mag to the guy. I have enquired about shooting some of the preditors and if you ask in this state you can usually shoot anything if its in the act of destroying something day or night. They did come out and catch a Bald Eagle that was getting baby pigs from a guy but most things you can shoot. Fish and game will not give you a permit but USDA will give you one for shooting all the deer you want that is destroying crops, you just can't eat them. If I am going to have to shell out this much money I guess I will pass on the night vision:( Hotch

Yes, in TN, if you have a legit reason (destruction of crops OR livestock) you can get a permit to take care of those critters. As for NV or large capacity mags, if you know your game warden quite well, that shouldn't be a problem either. Our warden says the gloves are off on coyotes, hunt them year round, use any means to thin them out.
