When will ANY ship that travels in the hot zone realize they need to be fully armed with shoulder fired rockets, and a few ma dueces? They need to have trained personel to use them also. A small price to pay for the security of your vessel, and passengers/citizens.
As for the pirates; NO mercy.
Back in the old days piracy was punished by death (walk the plank). After a bunch of pirates/ships get blown up, I bet the next bunch will think twice about hijacking another ship.

How stupid are the French elite ?
This is what Russia had to say about this today, a high end Cruse ship sailing a coast known for this ,and the ship was unarmed.
The U.S.Navy sort of said the same thing ,the entire world is laughing at this.
The BBC even said, in a world full of Chaos ,now and then we get to laugh at the French.
Paris ,embar- assed by this said they were on it ,but the fact that we do not arm Cruse, or Merchant Vessels ,is why no one as of yet, has been killed.
No ,an 80 Million $ Ship has been seized ,you have a Hostage situation ,and why the hell did the Capitan allow his ship to be boarded?
Google is saying there was over 800k worth of jewelry on board belonging to the passengers they just dropped off.
The French are going to have to show some balls in this one.
I don't think we or any other Navy should help them , I read where the Carnival Cruse lines ,in their Armory have G3 rifles ,and some FNH 50BMGs.

No matter how dastardly,, It does my heart good to know there are Pirates still roaming the seven seas in this day in age. I would imagine they are just as nasty as the Pirates of olden days, and would not be individuals the common man would choose to be a stalwart and trusted companion,,, but just knowing they are out there brings me a small measure of satisfacton.

I have a very good friend who is married to a merchant sailor, even though they are not allowed by company policy to carry fire arms he says you would have to be crazy not to, he said there are a lot more pirate encounters then are ever reported, because when the pirates lose there are no reports, it would cause their insurance rates to go up, so they just dispose of the garbage and go on with their job, he says it amazing how effective a laser dot is on an approaching boat of scum, if they think there is a chance of armed resistance they won't try any thing, no wonder they picked on the french!
