I have a very good friend who is married to a merchant sailor, even though they are not allowed by company policy to carry fire arms he says you would have to be crazy not to, he said there are a lot more pirate encounters then are ever reported, because when the pirates lose there are no reports, it would cause their insurance rates to go up, so they just dispose of the garbage and go on with their job, he says it amazing how effective a laser dot is on an approaching boat of scum, if they think there is a chance of armed resistance they won't try any thing, no wonder they picked on the french!
