I have been looking to purchase an 80% RSP to build my 1919A4, but I haven't seen much in the line of 80% RSP's lately. The only ones I could find were being offered by Ohio Rapid Fire.

I am thinking about ordering from them. Does anyone care to comment on their ordering experiences with Ohio Rapi Fire?

i've ordered from them

in the past and have not had a problem. their plates were "just ok". the engraving was pretty shallow and you can't blast them too heavily.

i speak in past tense because i have ordered anything from them in a few years. seeing that they are the only people i know offering 80% plates..............................

In the past they have been inconsistent with their quality control. I have seen plates that had the back plate and trunnion grooves cut too deep, leaving the plate awfully thin in those areas. Also, sloppy clean up sometimes left chamfers on edges that should be square. If you get a good one, the quality is fine. As far as I know, they are the only major mfg that still sells an unfinished, or 80%, 1919 plate. Recent ATF actions have largely put an end to that.

Did my first build with one, worked fine. Needed some clean up with a file, clearly not as good as a Halo or one of Sam's. For a while they had the most popular RSP. As stated above, the ingraving is not the highest quality. Have that done else where.

A general question about the engraving. What is the difference between the "Machine Gun" and the "S-Machine Gun". I can't find that defined anywhere.

Thanks,
Jeff

http://www.karmametalproducts.com/KAR_FIREARM_PARTS.htmsorry to sorta hijack this, but do these guys make good right side plates? they are $80 or somthin, and looked good quality in picture?
Anything tomt makes you can take it to the bank as a quality piece...his personality sucks, but he does good work:).

Helped build many guns (probably 25) on ORF plates with no problem. Of course with the current hub bub about 80% plates I'm a little timid about encouraging folks to buy unregisterd plates or else hold off until BATFE makes their decision.

Mine was a red-haired, freckled-faced farm kid from Lincolnia, VA (it used to be rural). Had he not lost his drawl in the Navy, you guys up there probably wouldn’t be able to understand anything I said.

Lobo beat me to it. If Karma (tomt) makes it, it’s good stuff. That's why I put his Forward Cartridge stops in my rivet sets.

Orion Arms

I have three side plates from Rapid Fire. One just got back from Orion Arms, the other two are laser engraved. If you can afford it, go with a blank plate and send it off to Orion Arms. The difference is night and day.

Let me second that. When I was using ORF plates, I got them blank and sent them out for professional engraving. Orion is the place to go as he offers first class quality and, thus, great value. Yes, it will add a few bucks, but it is well worth it!!!!

As I said before, the material and quality of ORF's plates is fine, so long as you don't get a couple of lemons like I did. If mine had not already been custom engraved before the defects were discovered, I would have returned them and have no doubt ORF would have made good. Just look your plate over closely for slot depth, etc. I am not the only one who had issues, but it may have been one bad run at that time.

EDIT- Let me not neglect to add that ANYTHING you get from tomt at KMP will be absolutely first class. Even the service from tomt himself! ;)

Tom is that why they are going through a FFL..I was wondering about that since it said 80% plates on the site. Have not been here for sometime and am still doing the search to see what is going on with the ATF.

I really want to build another kit but I really do not want to FFL the plate. I do not intend to sell the ones I build. How about just blank RSP..If I cut it and make it 100% is the BATF going to screw me on those also.

Tom 99.9% I will be getting the plate from you if I get a kit and have to FFL it.

I've been looking for a good 80% plate to build, I have a very bad one already a Cold steel solution plate, I'd say it is not really a 80% and not worth the $$ even if it was only $75 it is out of spec which is the bummer so it is only good for a dummy it is not engraved and has no holes drilled at all...I got the poo end of the stick on that one... So is ORF a quality product? are they the only game in town, now that halo has gone under the jack booted heel of the BAT boys... I have a friend who had gotten a Karma 100% plate and he is happer that a two peckerd billy goat with the quality. I may have to just pony up and go with that product. The issue for me is not a paper trail as is some folks problem, I have no problem with that but I'm just looking at saving some coin... a new 100% plate is $150 plus $60 to a FFL dealer, where as a 80% is or was $80 or so...better..
