I love seein pics like the one i found today of a group of local MO boys who got together to go eat of all things and show off their guns and talk about how they are gonna make a big impact when the US turns to chaos, you know, just talkin tough cause they have guns.

The guys are always HUGE, couldnt run 30 ft to get to cover if they had to without breathin so hard they wouldnt be able to hold the gun on target. They would make a easy target for even a novice to shoot at 1/2 mile, would have to carry more food then needed supplies like ammo cause they are addicted to food. It just makes me laugh but also disgusted. If this is what most of the gun owners are like then we are gonna be in trouble if somethin does happened and we need each other.

People, put the twinkies and ding dongs down, do some exercise, get off the couch, and make yourself usefull in some way to the world.

Amen to that Wayne ,i have mentioned that before and got flamed big time for it. And i didn't even go as far as you did.
And they all seem to be retired SEALs ,or SF guys . Then i am not talking a little over weight ,i am talking a ,Wal Mart isle cork , there ass goes from rack to rack. Then they talk about all the experience they have and that they are the one that should be in command of anything.
Even just sitting at a bench at the Range they are sweating profusely.
Just walking out to change targets and come back i think i am going to need to dial 911.
Extreme Porkus Maxumus.
A sniper would have a field day on these guys ,the only cover they can use is a one ton Truck.

Maybe you could post the picture that inspired you?

I agree with your words, though. Too often the "tough talkers" are living in a fantasy world. They're ready to kick butt and save the world - as long as they don't have to actually get out of their recliner to do so. It's not always the overweight, though. Plenty of Walter Mitty types as well.

I guess I am some what in that catagory I went to my new doctor and got a physical they weighed me in at 301 pounds that is the most I have ever weighed partially because I don't do as much work at work anymore. I am now a government empoyee I used to work much harder before. the interesting not is my doctor did all kinds of tests and blood work and everything was great blood pressure good cholestoral and bad cholesteral etc. just amazes be because I will eat anything fried. I will say that I don't look that heavy I am used to doing lots of walking and working outside being a meter reader at times and doing pipe work in the field at times as well. My point is this you don't need to run if you can shoot so if they are a good shot yea they couldn't function if they were fleeing but the idea is that we are not fleeing we are going to fight.

No matter how fast you can run, i never saw anyone who could outrun the slowest sub sonic rnd of .22 or 45 but still, you may have to move to gain ground or retreat or...... I know of big people that can move but the ones who just can not get out of the car without breathing heavy but your a tough guy cause you have a 9mm in your pants somewhere unless it got sucked up in one of the rolls is rediculous, worst then my spellin problem.

Reminds me of homer trying to run in one of the episodes, he takes about 3 steps and starts gasping for air, falling to the ground. LOL :D

The liability problem is a big concern. People that size if they take a round and need to be pulled to safety put others at risk. In a survival situation it isn't the food that is the problem, its the water consumption they need ,First aid is very difficult , any involved surgery ,even if only to stop bleeding, is 4 times more life threatening. A hollow point will blow them apart. I live where climbing would be constant , heat is a factor ,water, i just don't see them lasting very long at all. Yes if he is defending a fixed position would be fine , but if it came down to hand to hand or bayonets his 1911 would only last so long.
At the site of the USS Nautilus you could tour the Boat ,a fat lady got stuck in the hatch for 8 hours and required a crane to get her out. A 36inch hatch

Not to hijack the thread. But I just got an email from a friend quoting the Jerusalem Post about the Israeli air force practicing in Iraq. Of all the places they can practice why do you think it's there? Sounds to me like trouble brewing. Guess we'll see who walks the walk and who talks the talk.

Its funny you mention this... I try to keep in good shape and run at least 4.5 to 6 miles a week. I do 1.5 miles at a time sometimes 2. I can do 3 miles at a time but its too much strain on my bad knee and ill be sore for about 2 days if I push myself to 3 miles. I also do weights throughout the week. But just lastnight I set my AR-15/M4 up inside the door, ran my 1.5 miles. Grabbed the rifle and ran to my range in the side yard and popped off some rounds. 10 rounds, then 10 pushups, 10 rounds then 10 situps... Try that sometime.. its one thing to shoot while propped on a table or sittin in a chair, but try it when you have sweat running down your face into your eyes and your huffin for air in the 93 degree heat.

Martial arts is a good thing too, I have about 2 years of Aikido from back in 2001-2003, and right now Im taking Krav Maga which I would recommend to anyone if its available in your area, not only is it a workout, but the program is designed to be quickly learned...

My Tach vest setup includes my sword on my back, not where im used to having it cuz i was trained to pull it from my left hip but that doesnt work well there with all the gear not to mention gets in the way.. but im pretty handy with a sword thanks to the Aikido days... I figure if things get to close quarters and I cant get a reload I may have to start slashing and chopping, for example, I look at the scene in Saving PR when tom sizemore threw his helmet and pulled his 1911, In that same situation I probably could have been on the guy quicker with my sword than he was with his .45

sorry if I sound like a bag of hot air... just tryin to motivate and give suggestions Not in the best shape in the word, But I try.... well heres a face to go with the name fellas.....see no fat guy here :D

I use a bench when sighting in ,or testing a new load on my ammo.
But after that its off hand , but you know what , if things were real bad that fat guy could come in handy cooked up as a little long pig.
And Kong is right ,i wonder how the beer ,and cigarette guys would hold up.
Still the Cities would be no place to be , in the book ,Power Play ,the author made the best description of City survival in a real melt down than anyone has.
It looked like within the first 4 days you best be getting out of there ,before everyone else figures out help isn't coming , but something else is.

The biggest i been was 185-190 and im 5' 11". Now im 180 when i go to workout, 175 when i leave, i loose 4 to 5 lbs sweating. Everyday i workout I lift weights, do 3, 3 min rnds with either the bag or another fighter then run 1 1/2 miles in 12 min 30 sec, or 1 mile in 7 min 30 sec on the treadmill everyday (get better times runnin on the rd but the rds here are not very wide and no city sidewalks). I dont expect everyone else to kill themself workin out but were killin ourselves by eating and bein lazy.

Hey, all of us suntanned California men are among the finest physical specimens you'll ever want to see. What's up with all you overweight southerners and mid-westerners??? HA! :p

Okay, now for the truth, lol. I am 6'1" and recently got up to over 205. That might not sound bad, but I am not a large frame, so I was looking pretty porky at that, having spent my life mostly at under 175. So now I am under 185 and trying to get back to 175. I still can't run as far as Homer Simpson. I am gasping at two steps... but I'll get there. Oh, and no So Cal suntan for me. My white skin doesn't take well to the sunshine around here!

Yah, Double8 you have more of a runners build than I do... My dad is built the same way.. I can do 1.5 miles in about 13 - 13:30, my best time ever was just under 12 minutes and that was pushing it hard... but I weigh 246!!! then again I can bench 360lbs... my 60 yr old dad can out endurance run me though, i can beat him at the 1.5 miles, but he runs 6 miles each night, too much for me. We joke that in the cave man days he woulda been the guy that ran for help, I woulda been the guy that stayed to fight. :D Im like a crocodile, very fast over short distances :p

Boy,, you guys are makin me feel like ****,,, I never said I was gonna save the world though. I'm 55 and after running heavy equipment for years I'm tipping the scales at 290. I was up to 315 at one time, but after gettin so so results from the doctors, I started a life change deal,, dropped 25 since feb of this year. That is one of the reasons I got my Remington 700,,, I just didn't feel up to running the ridges any more,,, had some damage to my knees from my youth (motorcycles & horses,,, damn them)
I keep plugging away at my body mass,,, no real diet, just looking at the labels. Its amazing how many calories they can hide in a bag of cashews. Living on the road and putting in 12 hour days in the saddle,,, maintaining the machine and eating and sleeping,,, it sucks, but the pounds keep coming off.
One plus of the job is the quarries,, I have several that will let me shoot in,,, 300 + yds, flat and nothing to hit but the high wall.
I can hit an apple at 200 yds,,, I aught to be worth something,, :)

GS ,if that pic is you that is not what we are talking about , that is just a good ole mid western twister wrangler. The kind of guy who humped the M60 around. Im talking about these guys who haven't seen their willy in years except in a mirror. Like Wayne says, the ones i am thinking of ,they can conceal a 1911 in a roll and have to look for it if they needed it.
And Roc ,most guys i see that worked on or operated CAT heavy equipment are some big boys anyway , and they can put tracks on a D10 by themselves.

Ha!! You guys are slow... :D I do 2 miles in just over 11 minutes. I run about 15-20 miles a week in the So-Cal hills too. And unlike Lucky, I DO have the So-Cal suntan to boot!

Now what did i say??? This Gentlemen is without a doubt a fine specimen of a Caterpillar operator / Mechanic.
Notice the close shaved beard , the beady eyes , the massive knuckles and the glasses as prescribed by original CAT specs.
Absolutely no grade 5 here ,no sir ,this is all grade 8 Black steel.
Do not in any way confuse the girth as anything other than a counter weight used in the repair or maintenance of his equipment, essential in order to push or shove things twice his weight.
If you notice the proportion's of legs to shoulder relation, you will see that this is the result of 50 years of CAT research and development ,in producing the man you see here today.
They more closely resemble a Bear than a Man , and have been known to be very timid until provoked.
And if he has consumed any amounts of Bud Light he could tear a grown man in half, then still pay his bar bill!!!
