Lantern Boxes for the Williams pack saddle. I think. They are definitely lantern boxes and US. Most likely part of artillery baggage etc. Have access to two. I HAVE NO PRICE YET. Before I go through the agony of see if they are even for sale, I want to see if the wagon/cart-horse crowd are even interested. Wood is dry but decent. Leather obviously dry/torn. Hardware very nice. Some buckles gone. Two lanterns go in each box. J

Those look almost identical in construction to the 1903 and 1917 rifle armorers boxes in construction

...very similar...

Yep...they do look just like the 1917 armorer's box. The major difference is that the armorer's box is bound with iron straps all the way around.every side.
