Hey guys,

I have about 500 tracers that I recently cleaned up and unfortunately when I did, most of the paint came off. I want to repaint them so that I won't mix them up with something else and wind up plugging whitetails with tracers, but I don't know what paint ot use. So far I have tried krylon and model paint, but they both came off pretty easy even when I gave them a week to cure. Any other ideas?

Actually, if you don't mind not having a red or orange tip, a bluing touch-up pen works just fine. I used a Birchwood Casey Super Black pen to mark tips on some high-pressure loads for my bolt action so I didn't load them in the AR. It stays put on the tip quite well.

I use Dykem Red Layout Fluid to repaint tracer bullet tips. Not an authentic color compared to military paint but it applies quickly, dries in seconds and is pretty durable. I usually pour some into a small cup and dip the bullet tips into the Dykem. Let the excess run off for a few seconds, touch the tip to a paper towel to remove the last bit of excess and prevent runs/drips and you're done. Works well for me.

Also available from most shops/stores that sells drills, taps and related supplies to machine shops. A single 4 or 8 oz can will last you a long time.
