Just because it does me good to complain about Paypal every once and a while here goes!

So most of you that sell items online are probably aware of the new Biden tax rules that changed the threshold of sales from $20k AND 200 transactions to just 1 payment of $600. This happened sometime last year I believe.

Well at that time Paypal started bombarding their customers with emails telling them to provide their tax ID information. This would just be your social security number for non business owners. I am absolutely against that so I was just ignoring them and not allowing any payments of 600 or more. Now this was only applicable to the goods and services payments not any that were the friends and family method. I continued with this thought into this year but unfortunately got a 1300 payment last night.

Immediately Paypal locked my funds so I thought I'd just refund the money and tell the person to use friends and family method. Ohh...no that's not going to happen and here's where it went down hill! They kept the 1300 payment as a blackmail to get your info. They withdrew the 1300 refund from my bank account so at that point I'm out 2600!

If you don't give your tax info they will start giving your money to the IRS as a tax payment and will continue doing that until it is all gone or you provide the info.

I know...paypal is just another commie **** company and I got what I deserve for using them but this is just a heads up for anyone else. In the end I'm not really out because I just gave them the info and got my money back. It will cause a little extra pain at taxes next year but that's all. Just putting this out to inform others!

I stopped using PayPal to the greatest extent possible due to its anti-gun agenda.

Individuals and buisensses who use these vendors to buy and sell will not be able to escape having their transactions reported to the IRS.

IMHO, one is better accepting USP money orders and personal checks. Personal checks have limited risk: you don't have to ship anything until the check clears the bank. And clearing checks today takes about 2 - 3 days. USPS MO are safe: but I run the MO Number on the USPS web site to verify the USPS issued it.

Toolman203,

No doubt about it. This is why world governments--including Biden and his useless idiots-are wanting to implement Central Bank Digital Currency: there would be little hard currency in circulation. Transactions would be electronic so the Government can track your spending.

The Government will know what goes in and out of our bank accounts. And it could decide that something you want to purchase is not supported by the ideology of the Government. So firearm and ammo purchases would be disallowed. Like meat? The animals from which it comes fart methane gas into the atmosphere causing Global Warming. So eat plan and insect based food. Can't purchase meat.

The nut jobs who push extreme ideologies don't care about consequences--just implementing what their ideology dictates. Reminds me of old Soviet Union, and curent Chinese governent. No real planning--just push the party line and let the people deal with the consquences.

I lost my access to Facebook Marketplace yesterday for listing a collectible pocket knife for sale. What a bunch of turds running everything.
That does suck! I use market place quite a bit also. I'm surprised I haven't been banned yet. They chastise you for the dumbest things. Then after they give you a warning you are absolutely on their list! Ot always takes longer for item approval for me after a warning!

Lol...I know...

I should have also noted that this could be the same issue with cashapp, zelle, venmo or any other payment service. Not necessarily just a PayPal thing!
Not quite. Zelle does not appear to be overtly violating 2A like PP. Venmo BTW is PP. Zelle also doesn’t issue 1099. Nor does zelle require my SSN.

PP is popular because it’s ubiquitous. They are also anti-2A. Those who use it anyway shouldn’t complain about erosion of their rights, or being targeted by PP.

I won’t use it, and in not accepting it, I don’t support those supposed 2A buyers who are willing to look the other way.

Your bank already has your ssn. Zelle is attached to your bank.

This topic less the 2A side of it has also sparked debate on the model train collectors pages I belong to. With many of these models being well past the $600 level it does not take long to draw attention to your sales.

For me it is USPS money orders only, these I can cash at the post office leaving no record in any of my accounts.

Yes, you're right. I did hundreds of free transactions through them last year so maybe I'm doing more against them than you are.....

USPS money orders are a safe way to do business. They are not cash, and are trackable. When you cash them at the post office you put your name on them. The USPS does maintain records on these and is aware of money laundering and tax avoidance. Yeah, maybe the IRS is behind the curve on these right now (?) but that is/will be changing. If you purchase more than a certain dollars worth the postal clerk has to answer an online questionnaire, I believe that that threshold is $3k.

The clerks I deal with no more want to fill out that form than I do so they will make separate transactions to avoid that. Fortunately living in a small town they all know me and what sort of business I am in which greatly reduces the amount of scrutiny in my transactions.

I am not a fan of paypal, they are quite liberal and anti-gun (as is any company that draws it's executives and employees from Silicon Valley). I suspect that they would strongly prefer not to have to deal with the tax issue (really pisses off paying customers) but were forced to by their regulators. If you are involved in the payments system at all, the company is completely beholden to the regulators who in turn are under pressure from the political masters

Sorry to hear that they did you dirty like that big44. I quit using paypal when they began locking accounts and stealing funds from other vendors.

My ebay account was indefinitely suspended because I would not give them a direct checking account # to deposit funds. Read Ebay's TOS, they have a legal right to steal from you; any amount at any time at their discretion. Your only possible recourse is through an arbitration process selected by ebay inc.

I am not on Facebook therefore I cannot use or even view marketplace.

Most services we rely on to operate our daily lives are conveniences. These services are admittedly being used to; "encourage users to make fair and equitable choices that will add value for all current and future stakeholders". It is complete cult garbage and it will get worse.

Improvise, adapt and overcome. Or comply and submit; those are the options.

I'll do and will take PP F&F for up to a couple benjy"s maybe, but I can write that off as a "stupid tax" if needed. Even small amounts however get moved out immediately. It is so damn easy. For $1,300, oh hell no. Send me a USPS MO or a personal check I know you.

PP is not gun friendly and will take your money with the least bit of excuse from what I've seen. Fook em!
