I'm trying to help a buddy figure out what the heck this is. My lame guess is a stripped topcover for something big. I've looked around the web for pictures of a live one but so far no luck.
For reference, overall its approximately 11 and 11/16" long, 2" wide and 2 and 1/2" tall.
I'm sorry did I forget to mention its for an M40A2, 106mm Recoiless Rifle. A picture appears on page 1-6, FM 23-82, 106-MM Recoiless Rifle M40A2 dated 30 July 1973.
