OK, I have tried the search method and got 0 results. I'm merely trying to determine the pitch and size (length) of the screws to attach an Allied Armament stamped sheet metal scope base to the 1919A4. These are the three (3) shallow threaded holes down on the bottom of the rear sight base. Anyone know? Many thanks to anyone who does know and cares to share that info with me. blaster1 (Bob in So. Thanks fellows. I"m going to a machine shop tomorrow morning and see if they have the hex/socket bolts as mentioned but hope to get three of them with thread length of 3/8". That should work out OK since the scope base is 1/8" thick.

It has been determined that those screws/bolts have to be metric. Looked in four different stores that stock ALL kinds of bolts and fasteners and finally wound up with three metrics 3/8" in length. Ground em down to 1/4" in length and now they fit perfectly. Allied Armament indicated that prior to installing on the receiver, to be sure to peen the tiny mount screws or they may work loose. Wouldn't a gentle stake do just as well as peening them?

I didn't find that the three mount screws were metric. They seem to be pretty straight forward 1/4 -28 pitch screws (3/8 long). Those are the screws that mount the allied mount to the gun right?

As to the screws that attach the Weaver type scope mount rail to the Allied base I found that it is just as easy to purchase new longer screws and use a lock nut on the bottom rather than to stake them. I forget what size those small screws are but I apparently had some in my collection of junk. I picked up the Nylon lock nuts at the hardware store. There are four holes in the base but on mine only two were drilled thru the mount. I guess I could drill the other ones thru also but it does not seem necessary. Also with the sight I was using I had to use a washer as a shim between the mount and base on the rear screw in order to get the elevation right.

Armorer, I took the screws, that fit properly/perfectly, to a good machine shop and they confirmed these screws are definetly metric but I don't recall the m/m they told me they are. Couldn't find any of these less than 3/8" in length so as indicated earlier, I merely gound em down on the grinder to 1/4". So now I finally had use for the little set of metric socket screw wrenchs. Had them for years and up until now, never had use for any of them. Now I have to find a decent Red Dot type sight and this short length scope is needed so I can still open the top cover.

I'm sure interested in those screws (the ones that attach the scope base to the Allied mount) if you can locate them. I'll watch for your post.

Most hardware stores carry hardened screws in this size. I found them easily at a Ace Hardware .
I luckily did find the required metric screws at a local hdwe store. I live outside a town of only 8,500 population and the nearest ACE is about 30 miles away. Sure wish my little town had a Home Depot, Lowes or something like that. We are starving for some serious competition in the retail hdwe, home furnishings type stores area out here in the middle of nowhere....

Blaster those screws are actually both metric and inch patern. This sometimes happens. They are 1/4- 28 inch pattern and 6mm- .90 in metric. I just spent some time with my metric and inch thread gages and confirmed this. I found the bolts in the hardware store but under inch pattern allen head bolts. I couldn't find them in any other bolt style.

I forgot to add that the small screws that attach the Weaver style scope mount rail to the Allied mount are 1/8 -32 pitch counter sunk style and any length you want. There is no reason they have to stop at the bottom of the mount. Since the mount is thin it only has about three threads and that is little purchase for the screw. Thats why I left another 3/16 and added a lock nut.

Hey Blaster1,, I checked and I do have some. A friend of mine was going to use them for a screw build. I got them with the USGI kit I bought from him before he destroyed,, uh,,, built it. I have them in two sizes,, 3/8" and 1/2" long. They have torx heads, so you can get them real tight.
What I would suggest is that you try to get them local,, if you don't have any luck, you can have a set of these,, They have the fine thread and appear to be 1/4",, They thread right into the rear sight plate that is original equipment, so I would think they are SAE. The 3/8 almost bottoms out in the hole and the 1/2" leaves approx 1/4 to play with,, you could always shorten the 1/2" to where you needed it.

I could probably get these into a standard envelope with a bit of padding and it would only cost standard postage,,, if so,, consider it a Christmas present :) PM me if you want em,,

Thanks Armorer. I'll now be looking in the "junk" box containing many miscellaneous screws for scope mounts/rings. I'm sure I'll find something a little longer that will alleviate me having to try to stake them in. blaster1 (Bob in So. CO)
