What kind of powder is everyone using for tracers in 30-06 and 308? Commercial powder that is. Will 844 and 846 military pull down work?

I've just about lately use anything that I can get my hands on. 846 will work as will 846T (which is a little hotter). I've used IMR4895 WC846T, WC846 and RAD78L (50bmg spotter powder).

I see the Pats reloading now has WC846T. Good stuff, meters well.

The original load for an M25 Tracer is 50.0 grains of WC852 Powder.
The original load for an M1 Tracer is 50.0 grains of IMR 4895 Powder.
These are the 30/06 Loads...

I hope this helps, it is right from the Data sheet Government manual TM-43-0001-27

If it helps any, I run 43 grains of blc2. I go with light loads, as I'm not looking for super-speed. Bowling pins do not run very fast.

Yes. I get the cheapie tracers, but they certainly do spark off, even with my light loading. Grass fires 200 yards away can get REALLY BIG by the time you arrive to put 'em out.

Anybody got a good load for using the M25 tracers from 30-06 in 308 cases? If I use 42 gr RG4895 it's a real compressed load. Anything else being used? I'd prefer to not use a compressed load if possible. It's REALLY compressed!

I have been reloading tracers in .308 & 30.06 with two different tracer bullets. Not being sure of the military designation for the tracers, there were two types that came with the purchase I got. The M25 had one cannalure on it with a metal plate over the base to cover the tracing compound, these I use in the 30.06 reloads, the other is a dual cannalure with a silver metal on the base of the tracer thatI use on the .308. I will not reverse thes loadings as I believe IMHO, that doing so would compress the load excessively, I am not an expert, I just don't want to destroy any body parts with my toys!;)
