i got to the range yesterday and our utility range where we normally shoot was closed for the day so we had to use the main range and ........ there he was in all his glory.

he had his spotter scope and his box of 20 carefully hand loaded ammo. he immediately got an attitude when i brought out the tripod and the 1919. there is no dealing with these guys so i told him if he did not like it he could gf himself. i can't stand these guys and i won't deal with them any more.

i know it's loud being on the same range with a shorty 8mm but we travel 100 miles to shoot, i pay the same dues he does and we were not breaking the rules so f him.

as it was, we had problems with the gun and ended up bringing home way too much ammo so all his bitching was for nothing.

Good on you. I'm sick of these "elmer fudds" looking down their nose at us when we're at the range. Fortunately, my club's president is a former USMC scout sniper and he loves it when I bring out the toys.

Never had that particular problem

I shoot at the 100 yard bench rest range from a bench. Bad knees. My 1919A6 always draws a crowd people wanting to know what it is. Lots of times it's a dad with his kids, I always ask the Dad (in front of the kids) if he or the kids would like to shoot.

Most take me up on the offer or want to take, or have me take cell phone pictures. Always warn the kids and Dads not to show the pictures in school unless their sure about attitudes, or they have a lawyer in the family.

Got turned in one time for shooting a "Full Auto"Association Executive Director showed up, very polite, looked over my A6, left and came back a little later to talk about the 1919 and shooting in general.

Only problem I ever had with bench rest shooters was one time there were 6 of them shooting on a 12 positon range told me the range was closed because the were in a league shooting a make up match. on a Saturday. Told them that I would time my shooting with theirs, take breaks with them, for target changing and if they weren't comfortable with my offer they could work around me, and if they weren't going to file a complaint, I would.

Their attitude, actually it was only one guy with a case of the ass, changed to my position. Like the previous poster, I pay dues same as them, and would never think of shooting on the days when the have scheduled a 4 hour match. If it ain't on the on-line schedule it ain't official. It was never about what I was shooting, it was about who was going to prevail, and it wasn't them.

We have the fortunate luck of owning land that has some very wide open shooting spaces. The nearest neighbor is about 4 miles away. Its very good country for the .50 cal as we have some nice cliff backdrops we can shoot at, up to a mile away. Were very fortunate.

Hollidaysburg Consolidates Sportsmen's Association

We have a range Nazi here in PA, too. Our caretaker. He hates anything that isn't a skeet gun or a scoped bolt action. He's our caretaker, and a bigger ass the world has never known.

He screams profanity and blasphemy at people for imagined infractions.
One time, he was holding a rifle while doing so.

He once told a small group of us that he has shot 1/16" groups at 500 YARDS with a USMC ISSUE M16!

This same caretaker has been witnessed blasting holes in a gong with a 30.06 from the porch of the Club, ACROSS the parking lot from the shooting range.

Rapid fire shooting, or anything loud is out as well, at least as far as he is concerned. His latest tirade was to tell a member that his guest could be there, but wasn't permitted to shoot. (NOT the way it's in our bylaws)

The Club as informed him he is on his last warning. (seriously, I doubt the Board will actually can his ass, but they should. He'll kill membership with his antics)
This Fudd needs to find himself another trailer to squat in. He's nothing but trouble.

Clubs and Range Nazi`s.

I dont go to publc shooting areas anymore,I have a couple of private locations to shoot at.Going to public areas,Its either someone trying to steal your gun/or guns,Range Nazi`s,people that try to bullshit you to death, etc.Gun Clubs, the name is self explanatory,"CLUB",it is for them, not for you, think about it?.One time I was at a public range with my O.R.F. 1919,it was around deer season.I was finished shooting and walking out with the gun over my shoulder, and a Elmer Fudd type passed me on his way in,he said,ARE YOU DONE YET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?,I felt like whacking Mr. Fudd over the head with Mr. Browning,I was done shooting,I figured the HELL WITH THE OLD DORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

The first time I took my friend to join my range we were chaging targets too frequently for onea the fudds and he actually said, loud enough for us to hear, that while we were down there he oughta shoot my friend! Hand was off his rifle at the time but that was the most uncool thing Ive ever experienced. My bud confronted him and called him on how we hadnt done anything wrong to him and he just kept his mutterings up and left. But that really ruined the experience as we spent the rest of the time he was there tryn to watch him and not our targets.

Most of the time its just all the BS'ers that see me with a BR and have to come work me over with their crap. Tell me about their amazing guns that never actually show up at the range, or basiclly just explain how they know soooo much more than me but get the facts wrong as theyre telling me so.

The biggest problem we have here is that any magnetic projos are taboo, with the exception of the Lytle Creek range where we go a few times a year. The RSOs are not too bad at the local, Angeles range, but there is no rapid fire. At least no one complains when the belt feds show up.

On the other hand, I was shooting in a south eastern state with a friend who is also a member of this forum. It was the second time we had met, but a different, private range this time. Several people came and went during the course of the day, no one expressing any qualms about the 1919. But he told me a couple of weeks later that the club went out of their way to berate him for bringing someone with one of "those" things. I think he told them where they could put their rules!

Range nazi's

Before I escaped from California I used to go to the public ranges with a friend, the fact that we had AKs and an M-14 seemed to bring the purist to a full boil almost imediately, anything over two rounds a minute and they started screeching, really takes the fun out of shooting that type of gun, these are the people that are going to lose us our gun rights, they probably support the clinto gun ban, hey thier guns weren't on the list so it's Ok. I have much more fun now, I have an old gravel pit on BLM land to shoot in, no homes for 10 miles, only one road in so you can watch who's coming and going, I can shoot up to 300 yards or blast away with the 1919, Thompson or AK and no one cares, it's a great place to take a group of people, our town is going to open a shooting range, I will help set it up and pay dues and hope it doesn't become a NAZI ran range, but I always have the gravel pit to fall back on!

yes tom it was tusco

glock, you talking about tusco ? i've never had a problem there. thanks. tomt:confused:

i've been a member there for 15 years and until this past sunday, i've never had a problem either. i buy all their raffle tickets, clean the range up better than i found it, recruit new members etc. i'm 100 miles away so i can't make the meetings or the work crews.

anyway, the utility range in the back was closed as some guys had reserved it for a private f/a shoot (never knew you could do that) so we had to use the 600 yard range. the guy got all bent when he saw the shorty 1919 and told me i could not set it up on the bench (as if it was grandmas antique table) . i don't argue with intolerant people so i told him to to go f himself and he went cryin to the care taker and another trustee. they both came up and were real cool about it.

look i've been back on the utility range with that guy that loads .50 cals and has no problem blowin through 500-700 or more in a day. enough to make your teeth rattle but he pays his dues too and i know my shorty will sure as **** give you a head ache.

it's a huge place as you know and there are ranges for every kind of shooter. i normally hang with the knuckle heads in the back and we all get along. i just have a beef with intolerant douche bags who think their way of shooting is the only way. next time i'll call the message board b4 i head out. let me know the next time you're going out there.

I have to deal with a fleet of Range Nazis, they only bug me when I have the
1919 though.

First guy threw me off the range because, and I quote, "It attracts too much
attention.

Second time let me shoot, but hassled me upon leaving about my gun and
its "malfuntioning" (headspacing issues).

Third time, told me I couldn't shoot the 1919 without a bipod. I shot my
other rifle that day, as I started to see a pattern.

Fourth time, let me shoot, came up right away to check ammo for steel.
The FOOL puts the magnet on a link and tells me my ammo is no good!
I explain magnetics to the clown, finish shooting. Upon leaving, I was
chastised for my homemade mount( worked great too) and urged to wait
around for a "buddy" the range nazis said could make a mount for me.

All in a days shoot to me anymore. :p

I usually avoid ranges, but I did take my 1919 to a range near here once with a friend of mine. Only a few other people there shooting that day, so we tried to set up out of the way of other people. But as soon as the tripod came out, people started moving towards us. Including the guy in charge of keeping track of the range. Far from hassling us about the gun, he kept hanging around talking with us. A couple of the other people shooting were there with their kids, who of course homed in on the 1919. We offered to let the kids shoot it - one kid took us up on it and is probably still smiling about it today. The guy on the other side was a bit of a jerk, though. Wouldn't let his kid get near it, and wouldn't let his kid shoot any of his own guns either.

I also shoot sometimes on BLM land. The only hassle I had there was a BLM guy coming around to remind me to pick up my brass when I was done. And then he hung around picking up brass as well. Actually, he asked what calibers I reloaded and gave me all the brass in those calibers that he found. Most of it was old and of dubious value, but the gesture was nice.

Range Nazis

dealt with some douchebags as well when i lived in CA. The range in san leandro (oakland/bay area) gave me all kinds of crap when i went. Never did even get the 1919 set up there, the rso and fudd next to me were giving me so much **** over my sks's that i was on my way out anyway after telling the rso what he could shove up his ass - i wasnt rapid firing at all, they just had some bug up you know what as soon as i stepped in the door. this place has a ban on all full metal jacket bullets on the 100 yard open air range  WTF? over! While i was shooting my sks off a bipod this jerk comes over and makes a big stink checking all my ammo, and threatened to permanently ban me from the range because i had FMJ's in my ammo can, and if he saw me shoot one i would be 86'd. I just told him i was outta there anyway and didnt plan to visit there again. It really pissed me off because i had been going there for YEARS to shoot my pistols indoors and never had a big problem, but over those years i did see the range start to change with every visit - even if you counted 2onethousand in your head before the next shot i would get yelled at over the speaker.

Also had a short time at a range in livermore, it was christmas eve and i was at my buds house and we decided to call the range to see if they were open - sure enough they were open til 5. We loaded up and got there about 2pm, when we started unloading the AR's and i pulled the tripod and dual can adapter out the guy walked over and said they were closed. Normally i would think, OK the guys wanna close early on christmas eve, no problem and would have left. However, there were still a couple people on the firing line and they werent packing up  Said screw it and left.

Scottsdale gun club - a very nice range but certain guys there can get kinda loud for very small reasons. There are some idiots who have been very unsafe there so i guess i can understand some of their frustrations, but damn, some of those cats gotta ease up on the caffeine. Still though, not a bad range, really its a beautiful facility - but to my demise no surplus ammo can be shot there :(

Not long ago i hit BASF with another member here (before it got hot lol ) the RSOs took there job seriously and would nail ya if you screwed up - heard one of them threaten to knock out some guy on the line if he ever did something again - not sure what was up there. To my surprise, after letting a belt go out of my shorty 8mm in the A6, i set the gun down and half the friggen range including the RSOs was standing behind me  A bit more attention than i like to have, so i set up the RSO on the gun and let him throw a 100 rounder downrange and everything was fine, they were actually very hospitable and genuinely nice - something im not used to at a range other than lytle creek. Every break the rso came over and would talk with us while guys changed targets, ended up being a pretty good time at that range.

We had a good experience at BASF with the RSO's & RM but we wont go backup there again due the rudeness of the other shooters. I can look past most of what is said but when people get to be an asshat thats it. I had to get permission to take the beltfed there because in the rules it states no beltfed weapons or FA's allowed, i thought that stupid because once in awhile a group will showup with FA's shoot for an hour and leave.

Since we wont go back, we have elected to go out in the desert which happens to be less than 1/2 the distance to BA, shooting whatever goes bang and no 15 minute breaks while the fatman and his two fat friends waddle out to the 200yard line to see if they hit the target. Shoot tanerite, soda, and paint cans and everything else, is too much fun.
