I can help

I had a 7400 30-06..Save your money, there junk...It had a lot of feeding issues with many different ammo's...I bought a new mag and still the same...Cleaning the thing was a PITA....I could not get the "damn" bolt out of the gun to save my life...I am a "good" gunsmith, but I could not figure it out...I went to the Rem web site for a exploded view but that did not help...When taking it apart, you can tell how cheaply it was made...It would have made a good one shot wonder gun, but I need to be able to dump the clip, for it to stay in my collection...So I sold it to save money for a Garand...HTH

Never had any personal experience with the 7400s, but I have heard some really FUBAR tales related to me from some folks who have taken them in on trade.

If you really want a GREAT semi-auto rifle in .30-06, why not go with the greatest battle implement ever devised by man? The M1 Garand! :D CMP is SUPPOSED to be getting some more in around October. I don't know what the price will be by then, but they are usually real reasonable, if not pretty as rack grades.
