Yeah sure....TEN OFFICIAL US INVESTIGATIONS INVOLVING HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE, 7 US PRESIDENTS, THE ARMY, NAVY, THE DEPT OF STATE, THE JOINT CHIEF OF STAFF, THE CIA, THE NSA, AND THREE OFFICAL INVESTIGATIONS BY THE ISRAELI GOVERNMENT, WERE ALL ABLE TO COORDINATE A COVER-UP OF THE USS LIBERTY INCIDENT AND KEEP IT UNDER WRAPS FOR 35+ YEARS?
This CIA declassified document should be interesting reading for you. The US mistakenly told Israel they did not have a ship in the area. 10 official US investigations ALL place partial blame on the US in the Liberty attack. Get started reading this. If you want more OFFICIAL US documentation on this incident, I can load you up with enough reading to keep you busy for days.
This CIA declassified report covers the reason the USS Liberty was in the area (radio relay station for US Embassies), how the USS Liberty had it's orders modified (which the USS Liberty commander claims he never recieved), how the USS Liberty had been ordered to not approach the UAR coastline any closer than 100 miles or the Israeli coastline by 25 miles (orders that mistakenly got delayed because of a misunderstanding), and how an "overzealous" Israeli pilot could have easily misidentified the USS Liberty for an Egyptian ship.
Bottom-line: This report indicates the US did not think they had a ship in the area and told the Israelis this. If the Israelis saw a ship in the area (USS Liberty was 13 miles off the coast when attacked) , they would likely conclude it was an enemy ship and attack it.
Details just coming out on why the Israelis hit the UN Outpost.
CBC- Canadian General - Hezbullah Using UN Soldiers as Shield
Posted by Warner Todd Huston on July 26, 2006 - 20:04.
According to Major General Lewis MacKenzie, Canadian Army, retired, one of the Canadian soldiers killed by Israeli bombs in Lebanon had written emails home complaining that Hizbullah terrorists were using his UN post as a shield, expecting that Israel wouldn't target them if they were close to the UN post.
Retired Canadian Major General Lewis MacKenzie interviewed on CBC Toronto

Canadian killed from UN force complained his position shielding Hizbullah
"...the tragic loss of a soldier yesterday who I happen to know and I think
probably is from my Regiment. We've received e-mails from him a few days ago
and he described the fact that he was taking within - in one case - three
meters of his position "for tactical necessity - not being targeted". Now
that's veiled speech in the military and what he was telling us was
Hizbullah fighters were all over his position and the IDF were (sic)
targeting them and that's a favorite trick by people who don't have
representation in the UN. They use the UN as shields knowing that they
can't be punished for it."
