...same gauge I use to check throat erosion on my 1919 30/06 bbls. Even if the throat is worn a bit,I still stick a bullet in the muzzle and check the erosion there. If I can still see about 1/8" of the bullet (projectile)...I use it. Optimum is about 5/16th.".

Same gauge I used to have -- it got losted at a build party.

That throat gage is designed for use in an M1 rifle with the barrel installed in the receiver. The number readings will not be accurate if you just slide it into a 1919 barrel. You would have to use it in a barrel you know to be new and see what it reads and then go from there.
