Trunnion What did they do in 1944?

In TM9-1205, 7 August 1944, they list in the updates modifications (page 15, 3a)
"The casing assembly has been modified so that the barrel jacket is now soldered to the casing. NOTE: Since this modification, barrel jackets are not to be disassembled in field stripping."
I'm guessing that the casing assemble they talk of is the trunnion?
What I'm interested in learning is what did they modify on the trunnion design and can you tell a difference between a pre "1944" trunnion and a post "1944" trunnion?????
