So I finally pulled the trigger and bought the M3. Thank you to everyone who gave their input, this is an incredible gun! It's my first full auto and what a great piece to start with!
Old thread
Some obligatory pictures of the new (to me) gun:
Gun barrel Air gun Engineering Trigger Science
Creative arts Wood Engineering Machine Art
Train Automotive wheel system Gas Automotive tire Asphalt
White Auto part Composite material Machine Font
Office supplies Gun barrel Engineering Space Trigger

Based off of the markings I'm assuming this gun was built in 1954. The trunnion adapter also has a hairline crack.

For a surplus M2 / M3 depending on where / who you buy it from they can be had from $5k all the way up to but not more than $15k. This changes for factory new made production guns, where the price is around $27k including all the accessories and training.

50 BMG is quite expensive here, $10 a round normally but can be had for slightly lower if you know where to look.

That's quite expensive considering I've seen parts kits in the US for around $4k. But then there's probably a lot more that goes into it that I don't know. Transferable gun prices are a joke though.

I'm really jealous of those ammo prices

I remember seeing a m3 firing off a cab-mounted ring mount on a deuce and a half at Cheyenne Wells Machine Gun Shoot years ago and when I heard it I thought it was an MG42 firing. The ROF was up there. Was pretty memorable to see the guy spraying 50 tracer at that speed and at distances up to and over a mile away.
Cool gun. Hopefully you get to fire it from one Swiss mountain ridge line to the next. Congrats!
