So...what's the deal with that Sokolov mount?

Nice job with the Vickers. It's always great to see these guns running. So...what's the deal with that Sokolov mount? Is that an original, early mount or something made up? Just curious.

Regards,
Joe

the mount is a Sokolov, it is on a extension I make to raise it up. Lonnie(sherman) wanted me to make something to raise the Sokolov up to make it easier to shoot from. I made these. it is adjustable where it can go up a little more, or adjust from left to right etc. it works really well. he has one also. I just never posted anything about it untill now. it to is available on my web site. here is a picture of it with it all sitting together... http://shop.ironcreationsllc.com/images/12015554236312054122310.jpeg

it is not as easy as some, its more of a pain in the but than anything. I had it together in a couple days, after i made the side plate. it is alot of hand fitting all the parts, then take it back apart, reassemble then do it over again and so on. get plenty of pop rivets, you will need them. I wouldnt want to do another one, but I am glad I did this one. Mine shoots 7.62x54, and i have plenty of it. I know some may not like this but, I used High temp silicone on the side plates instead of solder:eek::eek: it has never leaked. it is also much easier to do. hell if it holds a water pump on as tight as it does after you remove all the bolts and pry like hell, its got to work for this. I will put my maxim together next.

for as much of a pain it is to take out, it is my favorite one to shoot. I can tell you the plate is a pain in the ass to make, it bows like hell. as soon as I get time, I want to start on the Maxim. I'm not much on taking pictures along the way, I would suggest you do that in case you need to reference them sometime. Hope to see more built!!

Halo is the only place I know for 100% Vickers SA right side plates. I don't know what Halo's status is since they were moving. I have seen a few unfinished plates (1/4 inch thick) floating around. See http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=104972376. Contrary to what the ad states, I understand the final work is challenging. The plate is quite thin compared to the 1919 and tends to warp when making some of the final cuts for the protrustions that extend into the receiver cavity. The "denial island" or "denial plate" actually extends between the two receiver places. See http://www.vickersmg.com/build.html. Yes, I need to finish the web site ----- sorry.
