Has anyone seen a universal Vladimirov mount for Maxim 1910 in the U.S.? If I am not mistaken it has a tail boom that unfolds into 3 legs. I have seen it used in a number of videos but the settng is always in Russia and not in the States.

There are none in the US. A few years back I had a tentative arrangement to buy an example from a european contact who had one. I opted to import it legally and set up the permitting procedure through an importer friend. State department refused the import due to the date of manufacture of the Russian made tripod being after 1917, meaning it was made under the communist regime. I have the state dept letter still declining approval.
The mount was not in Russia. All the Russian made Sokolov mounts that have come into the US since the middle 1990s also did not come diredtly from Russia but were approved. State refused an appeal.
Idiots!
