Hi,
Always looking for Colt made loaders.
Digger loaders, commercial loaders, any that were made by Colt.
Not interested in 7.65 Argentine caliber loaders but I am looking for a Colt hopper fed loader in 30-06.
Let me know what you have and I may be interested.

Also looking for a 1922 Swedish link loading machine (belt filler that uses links)

Always looking for odd calibers or variations.
Thanks,
Dave

Dave, I have an interesting example, but it may not be of value to you. Out of a batch of Argentine loaders I had, this one proved to look identical, including the data tag, but the opening is actually longer than the Argentine round. While an Argentine caliber hopper fits right in, the inside opening does not mate properly. It's not long enough for 30-06, so I am wondering if it is for 7mm Mauser or similar. Don't have a 7mm round to check, but wondering if you have seen or heard of Colt loaders in that caliber. They certainly built a lot of guns in that caliber during the 20s and 30s. It's also missing the mounting clamp, so I am not expecting you to have interest. But I thought it was worth posting.

Hi Glassmtns-PM sent

Lucky, how long is the opening?
I have one made by Santiago that has the correct hopper. The opening is 3.4" front to back.
This is the correct length for 30-06 since it matches my other loaders overall length.

I was told by a collector in Argentina that there was 30-06 caliber loaders but I have never heard of a 7mm.

Measure the length and maybe we can figure it out.

Pics below, but here are the numbers. The Argentine hopper opening measures 3.031" and the Colt loader opening is 3.241" in comparison. I did have a correct Argentine Colt loader and the openings matched fine. Third pic is USGI 30-06 ammo, which measures 3.328" OAL, laid over the opening of the Colt loader. There is some natural distortion in the photo, but the base of the casing is set against the opening, and the projo tip extends past the front of the opening. I know a lot of MG40s were made in 7mm, and no doubt some MG38s as well. That suggests a 7mm loader may have been made, but I am just speculating. SAMMI spec on 7mm is 3.065" max, so that does fit inbetween the Argy 7.65 and -06. Wish I had the matching hopper!

I've got a loader here that I'm not sure of. It looks like a 1918 but it has a brass top plate, crank handle knob and elbow on the arm for the top wheel. It also has a colt style feed chute. No markings I can really see and its in nicer box than military types I've seen...maybe commercial? The remains of the instruction sheet are under the crosspiece on the cover but nothing I can really read.
The loader belongs to a friend who wants me to sell it for him and there is a 308 conversion set in it with the original 06 pusher too....would like to ID it if nothing else.

Looks to be a standard 1918 loader with a brass top in 30-06.
Probably an earlier one if the tower is not a newly manufactured one and since it is brass.
The cartridge guide without the tapered sides was early but it has the newer bottom lug and pin so not a Digger loader chute. I have seen a 1918 loader with the Digger (1899) type chute interface. (passed on it and still kicking myself)
Any of the actual Colt loaders will have a Colt data tag on it or the location where one was once.

Anyone else feel free to chime in on details. I love learning more about these things from all of you guys out there.
