:( This forum has links that are viruses!
I got one off of the Artillery forum.
Be careful - very careful.
Probably has to do with the server switch.

If you opened one of the ones to a porn site, I'm not surprised! thats asking for trouble! most posts here should be fine, but the ones from new members with 1 or 2 posts that are spam and are all hot links going to porn sites............ just like in the real world.... you play with something like that you may catch something.

Porn sites

At my age (75 next week) I don't even know what a porn site is for.
I must have clicked on somthing that I should not have.
Cost me $100 with Norton to get rid of the damn virus.
Hell, a shot of penicillin would have been cheaper.
Ah - I can remember when ----

You can get viruses lots of places, one time I had AVG come on when I clicked on a photo of a Santa Fe RR antique monkey wrench on E-bay. Sometimes when you get a virus from an innocent place it will redirect your browser to a list of porn sites. Its some idiots since of humer I guess. On the old site one time there was a vender who had his webpage hijacked by a porn site and everytime a customer tried to see his gun stuff they got sent to a porn site. Oddly enough I believe Old Von R cleared the mess up. Hmm, I have not heard anything from him for a while, wonder if Armored Command finally caught up with him:D Hotch

It isnt viruses anymore guys ,its mall ware .The geeks have slowed down on viruses ,the Norton and AVG guys were stopping them . I got an adware that was a Trojan horse that it didnt matter how hard you tryed to kill it ,it just made reproductions of itself . I tryed everthing ,the only thing that saw it and killed it was Stop Zilla.

Buy an Apple and don't give viruses another thought. Apparently there aren't enough of us around to give programmers enough jollies, or they're too dumb to figure out Mac code.

Either way, I haven't been hit with any viruses or spyware in the last 8 years.

No Hotch i bought it .I did the free thing and it found the problems but to kill them you have to buy it . my Noton and AVG didn't even see this stuff. we tryed all the others and they didn't either . Stop Zilla found them fast and put them in a vault ,but didn't delete them unless you buy it . Some of the problems came from Sears?? Mall Ware doesn't need to be porn ,Ebay is full of it and it will mess up your browser . The FBI wanted a cyber div .to stop this ,but neither Clinton or Bush allowed them to do it . People pay a lot for a computer to allow little jerks to do this to them.

Along with my Norton Internet Security the other programs I use are all free. They are Ad-Ware SE Personal edition, Spy Bot search & Destroy, Windows Defender by MS and A-Squared.

I can't say enough about buying a program the freebie versions are okay but don't do enough whereas the one you own, will.

Some where on the net there is a site that explains that Norton is a Virus to your computer, if you delete it and replace it with something else not Norton upgrades your computer will operate better and faster with more memory. I have Norton myself and despise the program it literally takes 8 hours to scan it for virus'.

I have SpySweeper and it blocks all kinds of things including sites trying to place tracking cookies, (ileaditrack is the most common) and phishing software on your computer when you click links, it prompts for everything will prevent unwanted cookies and stopped a dozen Trojans on my end. as it now I have almost have no use for Anti-virus stuff, I sit behind a switch and 3 firewalls & adware SE Personal, Windows Defender, Bugoff, Spybot S&D, crapcleaner (AKA CCleaner), HiJackThis and, CWShedder, and turned off all open ports to this computer. I've had 2 attempts by Trojans in the last 2 years.

Unfortunately, once files are corrupted, they may be unrecoverable. If it's just the disks that are corrupted but the files (or some of them) are OK, you might be able to recover some stuff. If you have important files on thos disks, check around and see if there are any companies in your area that specialize in retrieving computer files. They might ba able to help you.

SpySweeper and PCcillian are a blessing to the PC if you are running ANY manner of Microsoft software. There are a LOT of good programs out there, but those two have removed things that have caused Norton to have heart attacks!

Also, until we get this script crap stopped, don't click on links that you don't know to be safe!!! If the link isn't from someone that you TRUST, don't do it!
Hopefully the Arty section will be fixed in the next day or so.

I had Norton ,and you are right ,it acted like it was taking over everything . My son in law is a computer geek and works for the schools ,he got rid of my Norton home , and put their pro . version on here and it works OK . Still that Mall Ware stuff acted like a Virus, but only a program made to get rid of that stuff did the trick. Allen you don't have to go to porn sites, per say , these days to get a bug ,the worst one we ever got came from Ebay while we were buying Christmas presents .
