What else do I "need"?

So far I have:

John McGuire semi 1919

Emory Crankfire

Lamitrap linker (on the way)

1000 izzy links

extra barrels

m122 tripod w/pintle and T&E

broken shell extractor

Old original period oil can

Original 1919 manual

8mm conversion kit (J. McGuire)

I think I might build a transit chest too. I'm not sure I would be able to move it with my bad back though.

What else do I "need" to make my 1919 "setup" more enjoyable or more complete?

Thanks!

I've been slowly puttting together a fairly good collection of spare part's and spring's. If I ever have a problem should be able to solve it on the spot. Unless I forget the spare part's toolbox.lol
Ton's of AMMO!

I just got my setup complete..Now I spend all my money stocking up on ammo..The cost of ammo go's up alot faster then the cost of part's and extra's and none of that means a thing unless you have the food to feed the beast..my .02 ...GUNNER 50
I didn't hear any mention of AMMO, LOTS AND LOTS OF AMMO:p
So far I have 6 tins of Romanian 8mm and around 1800 rounds of Port. 7.62.

That's only enough for about 3-5 range sessions for me.:D

I think I'll work on some spare parts.

I had some trouble with the gun today, it didn't want to feed right, and the trigger wouldn't reset, so I had better work on that first I guess.

How many extra barrels do you have? They're still pretty cheap (308). Might be a good idea to pick up another three from Coles.

You're probably right. I mean, 3 barrels for $100?!?!?

One day when barrels are $200 ea. we'll look back and say "I should have bought a bunch when they were $100 for 3!!!

Right now I have one complete John McGuire 1919, one parts kit that's about 1/2 complete, and 1 kit w/ RH sideplate, kmp parts, and internals already milled coming from Angola Armory. Hopefully within the next few months I'll have 3 functional 1919s!

I guess I could use about $300 worth of barrels.:)

These weapons certainly require a lot of "support". I mean you have belts, links, belt filling machines, linkers, spare barrels, broken shell extractors, manuals, spare boosters, topcovers, oil cans, tripods. pintles, T&Es, etc., etc.,...........................

It sure is different than taking the Glock or S&W to the range. For them all you need is the ammo, maybe a magazine, and that's about it!

But these beltfeds are --WAY-- more fun!:D

EDITED TO ADD--- I made a trigger return spring following the directions here, and now the trigger resets 100% of the time when firing it without the crankfire unit. Now I just need to get it to work with the crankfire and It'll all be good.

Hmmm,

With a crank you don't have no where near enough ammo. You don't even have enough to wear out one barrel let alone worrying about more barrels:D ...Lou

I just took a look at your site, and I think you have some stuff I need!

When I get back from Disney World, I'll be placing an order.

balming,

You are right, Lou has some great products and the workmanship is First Class!!

I recevied more barrels from Coles week before last (hope to see them this weekend) for the same reason, the price will eventually go UP. One of these is earmarked for Lou to turn into another 1917 style for my water cooled gun. This will give me three barrels for the water cooled and five each for my other 1919s. With me being out of town a good bit, I don't get to shoot as much as I would like so these barrels should last me a long time.

Once you get the basic items, buy as much ammo as you can as it sure goes fast with a Crank unit. I have about 10K and feel inadequate! Just think, if you had 10K loaded, fired non stop, this would only last about 30 min! In reality, this quantity would last for about 10 shoots if you fired 1K per trip. I usually try to fire at least 500 rnds. per trip. I try some accuray shooting and some blasting with the Crank unit for fun. Just this type trip cost me about $80-100 for ammo, cleaning supplys, gasoline, etc., so have this belt fed hobby does have costs.

When I go out to the range with my Mauser, I usually shoot about 100 rnds., this is cheap but not near as much fun!

<<<sigh>>>>

When all I had to deal with was my FALs, AR15s, and AK47s, 1000-2000 rounds for each weapon was a good supply.

Now I'm thinking of ways to accumulate massive amounts of cheap ammo to put back! Luckily my previous employer owes me a bit in store credit!

BTW, my previous employer, Summit Ammo, sells ammo and class 3 stuff. They have been focused mostly on .50 BMG ammo production for the last year or so, but they do stock pallets of .308, 8mm, and 5.56 sometimes.

I was their gunsmith, and I also worked on the .50 BMG ammo production line.

You can reach them at 1-877-726-4345 toll free. You can get some EXCELLENT .50BMG ammo from them, all kinds of stuff! Match, AP, API, APIT, Tracer, Ball, etc.

Happy shooting guys!
