Got home early today and got out some Irons,, I have been shooting the M1A a bit, but then I got out my Izzy HB FAL, and my HK 91 with the Eotec,, these two are edging out the M1A,, I have never liked a gun better than the M1A, and have never had a gun harder to hit with,, the FAL with the heavy bbl is so easy to get hits with, it's rediculous. And the HK with the holo sight is so fast to get hits, it's scary!,, I still have not gotten the Remington 700 fired up,,, next week,, as I'm waiting on a pair of ARM'S lever locks.

If the SHTF,, what would you grab?

it would have to be my Armat M41A 10 mm pulse-action air-cooled automatic assault rifle, with an over-and-under configuration incorporating a PN 30 mm pump-action grenade launcher.......it's the only way to be sure :D

If space and travel capacity allowed, I'd pack everything into the truck and go as far as possible! After that, the M-4gery would be primary, with the 300 WinMag for long shots. The Sig on my hip and a shotgun for CQB if available.

Chances are better than not that we won't see it coming, though. In that event, I'll take what I can, disable the rest, and put as much real-estate between me and the crisis area.

Hmmm, M16 A4 for sure, MP-5 for CQB OR the American 180. Glock G35 on the hip and Benelli entry gun for back up. If I could get the HE rounds, then definitely the M203 for perimeter threats. Nothing like a little 40 Mike-Mike to make ones day!:D

You will be lucky to have anything to grab, in all likelyhood, as with nearly everyone in our country, you will be grabbing your ankles:p

If by SHTF you mean tornado or hurricane, I'd stay low profile if you are evacuating, in other words concealed.

I like the idea of staying dicreet period. If you are driving a Lexus SUV, is it because its 4x4 is better than an old Bronco's or because ego demands that you drive a Lexus? Who would a crook target? The guy in the $4,000 dollar car or the guy in the $40,000 dollar car.

Low profile and leave a small foot-print in situations where all the other monkeys are afraid, desperate, and willing to do anything to survive.

If you mean end of world nuclear holocaust then the question is where are you going to go? Staying put might be just as bad as leaving or it might be smarter since leaving exposes you to more radiation and people. Same with an outbreak of diesease. Limited contact might mean staying inside with the doors bolted shut.

If you are at home then all your weapons are at your dispose. In that case grab the one thats loaded. First rule of a gunfight is to have a gun;)

I work with fed emergency management and most scenarios are not to promising, hence the ankle grabbing.

- Be prepared and SELF reliant. Uncle Sugar aint gonna help anytime soon.
- Have a firearm, have ammo, have a reliable firearm, know how to really use it.
- Exit plan. Get while the getting is good. Have somewhere to go, not around people. If you wonder how other humans act in a crises go to the monkey cage at the zoo and take notes.
- Be ready to suffer. Going from Starbucks to boiling contaminated water will suck. Going from email to not even having regular mail will be hard. We are use to a certain standard of living. My guess is alot of L.A. soccer moms will kill themselves via ODing on their Zanex and Valium after a few weeks of no gas, no double mocca frapacino, and not downloadable iTunes for their Ipod or Blackberry connections.

Good points 2ndshooter

I like the phrase "Uncle Sugar" his minions are more likely to make the situation worse in the near term, look at what went down in New Orleans.

For a the real SHTF experience check out:

This guy is living through the long term SHTF in Argentina and has some great stories of what its like. I highly recomend taking a read.

After reading his stories I have been rethinking my choice of insurance and have added some concealed carry options and am strongly considering investing in an M11 and form 1 can.

Just my 2c.

always find this subject interesting.....

I would go with the Phaser Pulse rifle Mk IV with the quantum singularity power source and a personal transporter beacon, failing that........

Seriously, my M1A with a combat load and the Glock 22 are always on standby and I have a 72 hour pack (for 4 people) with a nice S&W M10 5" and ammo backup in the pack. The biggest problem that I have (as do many) is time: go or stay and if you think you have time to pack before go you bog down because you have so much "useful" stuff to pack and that slows you down and you may go past that critical departure time. Having been in New Orleans on Katrina plus 6 as part of the fire sevice/FEMA effort most people who missed that critical point either were well prepared to stay or didn't fair very well. And no one who left or stayed faired well unless they had some dumb luck.

Take what works for you best, accuracy, reliability and ease to carry.

As previously said: low profile is best wheither you stay or go...and better have a good place to go not just an idea, about 500,000 others might have the same idea.

depends where i am - at my place in CA i would want my mini 14 with my preban mags, and the ever reliable glock on my side. If at the house in AZ i would DEFINATELY grab the ak47 first, and another glock for my hip. I got love for the M4, but i personally would go with reliability over a little better accurracy anytime.

Well, let's see- a 1919, an MG-42, an AK underfolder, a Garand, a Thompson SBR semi, and an M1 carbine, a PPSh41, and a couple of shotguns SHOULD cover the weaponry OK along with ammo and reloading supplies. So unless we have zombies, there's too much to carry; and if TSHTF, just where do I think I'm gonna go that's any better than here out in the country (mostly) anyway? Better to stock up on food and supplies and dig in. I've got a 2 story house and live in a straight strech of country road, I know most of my neighbors and most of them are also "gun nuts" or at least willing to stick together, I think. So IF the time ever comes, I plan on turning this place into Firebase Joker, and anyone I know who wants in is welcome to join me as long as they can bring enough food and ammo to chip in, or at least be willing to help do what is needed. Across from me is a couple of hundred acres of good farm land, cattle, goats, etc. and we are surrounded by a LOT of wooded hills to hide up in. If my neighbors can help provide food, I can help them protect it and their families from looters, etc. If the UN or Red China rolls in with tanks, etc. that's a whole 'nother story. Of course, I guess it also depends on what the situation is. Economic collapse, conventional terrorism, natural disasters, I suppose can be addressed. Global thermonuclear warfare, giant sun-blocking meteor strikes, absolute plagues, extinction-type events, I guess are beyond the scope of my current abilities and planning. Of course, if there's no one else left alive, why bother?
