I got the "gun owners guide for AZ" but still seem a bit uneasy. Im livin dual lives right now between CA (where my biz is) and AZ (where my family is) and need some straight shooting AZ boys to give me the low down before i F something up - tell me the unwritten rules.

In my book it doesnt really say the restrictions on different places unless a sign is posted barring open firearms - yet i have not seen more than a couple people carrying the whole time ive spent in AZ. Maybe everyone is CCW but man or just not interested, i just thought i would see more in a place with such free carry laws.

I know about the places that serv alcohol and stuff - but when i go to the store/mall or whatever i dont see anyone carrying - yet i dont see any signs saying you cant. does open carry draw too much attention and people just dont do it anymore or what? or some kinda unwritten rule?

When i have time to take the CCW class i will, but in the meantime i would appreciate any info i can get. Being born and raised in CA, this stuff is pretty new to me. Tell me the way you boys do things such as carrying in the car and such - the book is a bit confusing about having the gun cased, and how a holster will fit the bill - just not under the driver seat

I see much more open carry in the countyside than in the city. Partly because there are some areas in the city where restrictions apply - such as where alcohol is served and where signs prohibit it. Most malls have prohibitions. Also, there are in some cities issues regarding open carry in parks. Another consideration is that, since there are some people who feel uncomfortable with seeing guns being carried, some of us take the less-likely-to-offend route and carry concealed. No sense upsetting nervous voters unnecessarily - less likely to inspire someone to propose anti-gun laws.

I do think that open carry was more common before concealed carry was allowed.

By the way - the CCW class will give you a lot more answers to your questions. The ones I've attended are either taught by LEO/former LEO, or had an LEO come in for part of the class to answer questions. Personally, I recommend the class even if you don't intend to carry concealed.

The way I understood open is you can a holster IWB so long as the magwell/grip was visible. Never heard of the cased gun bs I suppose that is intended for hunting purposes, even before I had a CCW permit I carried it on my seat which is perfectly legal, if you are stopped by DPS or some other LE agency just play it cool, course you already know that. Unless you see signs or are approached by someone who owns a store or mall security and asked to leave or you can't bring your firearm inside (because they see that you have one), then there aren't many places that don't allow open carry.

I asked a MCS Deputy yesterday the question regarding banks and the answer some what 2 sided but similar to places that have it posted. I sometimes don't carry when I go into banks just depends on if I have $2,000 or $60,000 in deposits, the more money I have in hand the more paranoid I get, drive-thru is a conveint way to do it.

There are absolutely no laws that prohibit Concealed carrying inside banks in Arizona, some people just worry themselves to death when they see a GUN, banks are considered financial institutions FDIC insured, they are not Federal nor state property hence the public parking lots, they are only Federally insured. The laws that went into affect just recently state that a place that is not posted barring firearms or weapons must by law provide a secured storage area which is readily accessable to the patron so him/her may retrieve their items. or something like that.

But if you walk into one w/ open carry expect a ruckus. Oh I forgot phuq the airport, you shouldn't carry if you are driving thru it and not stopping its considered a nono I guess somehow the roads we paid for are now their property even though my tax $ pays for improvements.

Fry's Electronics doesn't allow Firearms at all but autofolders, pepper spray, tazers and knives are okay, its really stupid but whatever.

I open carry some times even though I have a permit, just depends on circumstances, holster rig or if I am going in the Sportsmans Warehouse.

The laws even exist at the Gun Shows, if you conceal it on the fair grounds (w/o the permit) and get caught consider grabbing your ankles, it'll be a long ride.

I walk into malls all the time, I constantly scan for signs that say no firearms allowed, I haven't seen any in a long time, but then whats the sense in going to the mall, gun stores aren't there so no need to go.

I'm with Bill S on this one you'll learn a lot from a Class and 5 years afterwards the laws will have changed and you'll get a refresher course. I went through a Private Investigator/security agency to get my permit, his course was a little tough he wanted 90% or better on the written test before he'd issue a completion certificate and doc's.

Concealed carry on your private property is OK without a permit and concealed carry with the permisison of the property owner should be fine as well. (At least this is how it was the last time I was explaining myself to the fuzz). No bars or restaurants that serve alcohol.

I shop at the one on Thunderbird and lately the prices seem higher and that big sign saying that they don't want my business(no guns) has made me shop online more often. www.zipzoomfly.com

Here is a concise list of where you can or cannot carry in AZ.
http://www.azccw.com/AZ Carry Restrictions

As far as open carry goes, just make sure the firearm is is plain view and clothing worn should not cover (conceal) while seated, standing or walking. This is just may sanity check I give to out of state family or friends who think carrying open is the coolest thing.
