Thanks!
Yeah, I believe those were Mk 2's. I have a few of those and my kit came with one...I know there's gotta be a Mk3 out there somewhere!

According to my references the MK3 barrel was only made for a short time, in small numbers. It was replaced by the Mk4 and M5 barrels, which were used with BREN Mk3 guns.

A few years ago IMA had Mk3 barrels for sale- or so they called them.

I got a Mk4 or 5 at KCR, it has the lump in the barrel like the Mk3, only one I've seen. Sorry not for sale.

Just get a Mk2 barrel turned down to be a Mk3 barrel

I don't think it's that easy. One would have to cut down the barrel, re-notch for the FH, and add metal to get the fat space mid-way.

That's assuming he already has the Mk3/4/5 front end (FH/ sight) because the sights are different.

A Mk 2 will fit fine; if he wants a shorter barrel, then the work can be done to make it look more Mk 3, and to use the Mk 3/4/5 parts. Seems like a lot of work though, when there are barrels out there (somewhere).

My suggestion: use a Mk 2 until you find a Mk 3/4/5 and just keep looking.

Chad contact Greaser here on the board for the M1 Carbine trainer rounds. I have only seen a couple loose one over the years and I gave one to him so he could make some and he did a very nice job with them. I am not sure if he still has them but reach out to him because he should. Russ

On my quest to find a MK4 barrel -- they are out there -- I was told that India made MK4 barrels by cutting down MKII barrels and fitted with new FH/sights. India seemed to be the master of keeping old Brens running and variations, e.g., MKI/III, which is a MKI Bren with a MK3 stock and MK4 barrel. My impression is that about any combination of parts was used as the Bren approached the end of use.

All this BREN barrel stuff got me thinking. I haven't shot my MkII BREN in a couple years. I think I'll start BREN blasting the next chance I get.

Will do Russ, thanks for the tip.

Again, I appreciate all the info. I really need to brush up on my Bren studies. I have 2(39 Enfield and 43 Inglis), and this Mk 3 one day will live again.

that is not correct. the fat space midway as you put it is the original diameter of th Mk2 barrel. that area is not turned down. the job requires shortening the barrel and fitting the flash hider and turning down the barrel. Its really a basic job to take a Mk2 barrel and turn it into a Mk3 or Mk4 barrel
