Gentlemen,

Do later model Mauser parts interchange on the Gew 88 "Commission" receivers? I have one of those stripped receivers, someone did a butcher-job trying to drill scope mounts and scratched up receiver ring removing barrel, has quite a bit of minor external pitting, interior condition is very good. It was free and I stashed it away, need to know if later model bolts/trigger assembles will work, thinking about a .45 ACP carbine build as I wouldn't trust this receiver with high-power rifle ammo.

TIA,
Dave

Off hand I would say probably not. The Model 88 Commission rifle was actually a Mannlicher design not a Mauser. The Mauser Model 89 (Belgian), 91 (Argentine), 93 (Spanish), 94 (Swedish), 95 (Chilean) and 96 (Swedish) were completely different animals and have few if any parts that would interchange even with the M98 let alone the Model 88. They may have components that might interchange with other Mannlichers but I doubt it. Unfortunatley there are so few Model 88s around and so few are in shooting condition that not much has been wrtten about them.

There are alot of junk 88's around, one outfit has 5 for $50 bucks if I remember (SOG?). Shooters are pricey, you might be able to scrounge enough parts to make a shooter? Bad part is you either will be searching a long time, or spending a few hundred on a large cache of junkers that hopefully can be assembled into 1 safe rifle (key word hope!)

I'm planning on doing just that, I may even get a few parts custom made if I can't find any decent ones.
