I finally lightened up a bit since Tom Bowers announced his resignation from Akins Group Inc. Now, I'm just wondering what the hell I should do with my AA? I've considered selling it, either outright or auction, but I have no idea if it would be legal. I turned in my spring back in January (documented), so it is "deactivated". I'm just not sure how the ATF folks would view the transfer of such a device. I'm assuming that it would be OK, since it was an assembly of parts rather than a firearm receiver. Removing and disposing of an essential part makes it no longer function as intended. However, I'm not a lawyer or a BATFE agent, so I have no friggin' clue. I just want to stay out of jail  Any thoughts?

I'm tired of waiting out the ATF and just want to recoup some of my money. I'm sure that if the decision was overturned or the existing AAs were "grandfathered", I could get as much or more than I paid for the stock. However, I'm more interested in playing with other real FA toys and just want out. What would be a fair price for the AA, given the current status? I'm guessing that the only way to really know is to auction it, but I figured that I'd ask the question. Ultimately, if it turns out to have no value at all, I probably hang on to it, stash it in the closet, and hope for the best.

Thanks

First, it is not a firearm. You did not fill out a 4473 when you purchased it. Second, it is not a machinegun. Once ATF communicated with you and "confiscated" whatever part they felt was the offending part, it pretty much went from "machinegun" to a pile of useless parts. Since ATF declared it to be a "machinegun", you can be sure that they would not have let you keep any parts that were contraband.

If you want to keep it, keep it. If you want to sell it, sell it. Problem is, that it is essentially useless without the required parts. It's only worth something to someone that either collects stuff like that, someone that will convert it back to full auto and do a post sample or someone that wants to try and re-engineer it and have another stab at ATF with it.

I would be interested in it, with the goal of re-working the getup, and trying to have it approved by ATF. Problem now is, that it's not worth much, it is after all, "missing parts" and not usable.

Value? Id think something like, an AC556 parts kit, minus the receiver, minus the barrel, minus the bolt and minus the select fire components.

Rory,

Actually, I had tried to PM Panaceabeachbum, since I'm on the waiting list for one of his M11/9 .22 AM180 drum-fed uppers. I was thinking that we might be able to work on a trade. I also tried e-mailing, but it bounced. He's been getting a lot of inquires on his upper from the guys at Uzitalk, so I'm not surprised that his mailbox is full.

I want an AA to play with. I am overextended right now, but hope to try to find one after the holidays.

Since they are worthless without the spring, I don't think they will be bringing anything near $1000. I am thinking around a fourth of that.

What does everyone think a neutered AA will bring?

funny i was thinking 250-300 too
but i am not looking to buy one. i was just expecting that that is what it would sell for.

hell i thought that the working one should have sold closer to 500$
if it had i think that they would have sold 10 times the number that they did and it would have been a whole different story. distribute the product through about a hundred retailers. make money on volume rather that margin. whatever whats done is done.
