A lot of these are ex-sporters , so replacement wood is very possible . Replacement barrels made from other surplus barrels are common . Go to the Johnson 1941 forum or get the book to see what / how the originals are marked . Check for buttstock breakage / repair . The takedown pins are known to break off the little keeper tabs and stocks have been missing the metal catches to retain said pins . Check to see if the bolt hold open works , it was an added feature that just sets loose in the action ( Johnson did not believe in the feature ) and is easily left out / lost during stripping and reassembly .
As far as the gun itself , check the length of the recoil spring as many are tired . Check the material on the top of the bolt / carrier by the two rollers . Wear there could keep the bolt from unlocking during recoil , preventing function . If they are worn , the receiver is prob'ly worn out too .
Good luck on your search , they are neat guns .
