....looks like....

Hey guys....correct me if I'm off here. This box looks exactly like the 1928 Colt belt loader box....w/o the inserts. Were the 1917 parts box and the 1928 loader box the same size....? If so,let me know. There would be a heck of a market for these things. I would also like to know the dimentions. PM sent...

All of the colt boxes ( both armorers chests, cleaning kit, and belt loader box) were the same size as the ammo boxes. This was done so all the boxes could be transported in the standardized racks or packsaddle equipment. They were distinguished from the ammp boxes with a quick glance by the color stripe painted on them and the orientation of the stripe. The usgi stuff was not as organized, just like the guns were not as refined;) Had to get a plug in there but seriously the commercial customers of colt benefitted from experience gained during and after the great war. The boxes were partitioned for their purpose, but the outside dimensions remained the same.

...wtg B.a.r.....!!!

You guys just made my day....!!! Finding out that all these boxes are relativly all the same size is a revelation. The pics are the iceing on the cake. Will attempt to make a couple of these boxes. Only difficulty I forsee is getting the correct latch hardware. Anyone have any extras they want to sell/trade for belt loader parts....? These boxes could be as popular as my belt loader boxes....LOL.....I hope....!!!

yes, the latches are standard hardware that are available on the wooden ammo boxes from ww1

IMA makes replica ammo boxes also with the same type hardware

the hinges appear to be standard run of the mill gate hinges bent and cut to fit the bottom section of box
