This image was done around WW1 by photographers Mole & Thomas. Kinda looks a bit like a Vickers. They did a lot of these using thousands of soldiers to form different images. According to the image, it took 22,500 Officers and enlisted men as well as 600 machineguns to make this image.This website has a lot of them posted.

OK; THAT's a pretty cool photo. From the title, I had this image in my head of a black and white photo of some fat guy spitting bullets out of his mouth while being sprayed with a hosepipe... :p

that is a photo from dolphs book on brownings - forget which volume

Being WW1 I wonder where they were taking the picture from, exposure time had to be a little longer then we are used to and an airplane would be quite primitive, baloon maybe? I've seen a couple other like this so they must have had a fairly good system worked out, thats a lot of guys to get all set up in the right places.

Yeah that's what I thought the M1917 does look similar to the Vickers in profile.


And so it is. The tripod looked a bit odd , and I think thats what threw me off.
