Your first case is close to Nashville, in Williamson County.
People pay attention when the confirmed COVID-19 patients are in your city/county.
There are now 429 cases in the USA with 17 deaths, we now have 8 cases in Colorado.
After the first confirmed case in an area, the medical establishment starts testing people that patient has had contact with and the numbers start to climb.

When people start dropping like flies I will be concerned but for now no reason to panic. Probably worse viruses living on the handle of a Walmart shopping cart.

Today you now have a COVID-19 patient in Memphis (Shelby county) and Nashville (Davidson County).

A friend was just informing me of the product supply issues he is having with his small business.
The reports from the port of Los Angeles show at least a 25% drop in container ship unloading.
His contact said they had days last week with zero ships arriving.
The port also has to screen the ships crews.

Richard,

Sometimes it helps to turn the news off and just go on with life. Many catch this virus and get over it without evening knowing they had it. I do not find this something to obsess about at this time, for the vast majority of the country life goes on as usual.

That solution may work for some, but when I walk into work on Monday morning I will be dealing with this event and everything that surrounds it.
COVID-19 effects people and business.

Our area is almost entirely dependent on tourism,I'm beginning to wonder what kind of summer we are going to have.
Probably about the same experience as the airlines are having now.
The business news has stated that they are comparing the COVID-19 event to the time after 9/11.
International carriers are making "ghost flights" (planes with no passengers) to overseas destination's just to keep there gates and routes.
Last week I read that domestic carriers are reducing flights by at least 25% due to having no passengers.
Most businesses are not having anyone travel right now.

The news this morning reported a 17% drop in exports from China for January and February. Given how much stuff we buy labeled "Made in China," that's gotta have an effect.

I read an article yesterday that mentioned COVID-19 attaches to the same receptor as ARBs (Angiotensin Receptor Blockers), the blood pressure medication. It's being proposed as a treatment. Makes me wonder if that makes all the old farts taking the stuff immune. MSG

Gov declares state of emergency in Colorado

https://www.cpr.org/2020/03/10/colorado-coronavirus-update-gov-polis-announcement/

State law gives Polis extraordinary powers to deal with disasters, but rarely has a disaster declaration been used for a pandemic. More often, disaster declarations are called for wildfires, floods and even snow.
The disaster declaration goes into effect for 30 days, and the governor can renew it until the threat is gone. He can restrict the sale of alcohol and guns. He can close public buildings and shut down public events. He can seize medicines from retail and hospital pharmacies. And he can quarantine people or buildings.
The state legislature, however, can check his power. They can end the disaster declaration by joint resolution.
The governor was accompanied at a press conference this morning by Jill Hunsaker Ryan, executive director of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Rachel Herlihy, the state's communicable disease epidemiologist, Scott Bookman, incident commander for the state’s public health response to COVID-19, Mike Willis, the director of the Colorado Office of Emergency Management and Stan Hilkey, executive director of the Colorado Department of Public Safety.

Richard

OH, and Governor Palpatine OWNS the state house and senate, so no checks or balances ....

So from what I have read and seen so far the states that have declared states of emergency are: California, New York, New Jersey, Washington St., Oregon, Florida, Utah and now Colorado. Sounds about right.

My National Guard unit (New York) is currently doing a very limited activation. (Just asking for 5 volunteers per unit) Good ole emperor Cuomo has ONCE again called on us to fight another one of natures threats. Im guessing my troops will be going around squirting people with hand sanitizer and promoting good hygiene practices????

The damn media is making this sound like its the zombie apocalypse.

The one basic rule I learned during Military service "NEVER Volunteer"!

Holy. Effing. ****.

Govenor Cuomo just announced a 'containment area'. Says travel to and from is free, but 'large gatherings' are now banned for 2 weeks. This REEKS of martial law. Cuomo has spent the last 8 years disarming New York, and now he wants to restrict people from schools, large businesses and other public areas? Gents, Im really worried that this is going to get real stupid real quick.

Colorado's Governor (Palpatine) has also declared a state of emergency, and that comes with 30 days worth of additional "powers"
The original idea was the State legislature would have the power to counter his authority.
Unfortunately the Governor IS the state legislature.

Lets have a little perspective.
So far, WORLDWIDE, COVID-19 has caused 100000 illnesses and about 3000 deaths. This caused mass panic.
The seasonal flu in the US ALONE has caused 34 million illnesses, 350,000 hospitalizations and 20,000 deaths, this barely gets mentioned.
Remember when H1N1 was going to send us the way of the dinosaurs, or Swine flu, y2k and on and on.
Cold and flu (and Coronavirus) are temperature sensitive viruses. As the weather warms, the disease will spread more slowly. It has peaked in China already.
Just keep perspective.

I’ve noticed a sharp drop in gunbroker sales.

Was reading today some financial expert said big investors and brokers are dumping, but joe average isn’t playing the market nor is joe spending cash.

Everyone is prepping for what they think will be the inevitable lock down and national quarantine that other countries are experiencing currently (China, Italy, etc). This is further stoked by the media. I agree to be prepared, I live in FL and hurricanes are real, but many are greatly overdoing things. TP stacks to the ceiling for a household of 2 is a bit much in my opinion.

Looks like the President just imposed a travel ban from Europe.
There will be case by case exceptions for American citizens.
A month with no visitors to the USA?
I bet the southern & northern border is going to be busy!

Richard

I was just talking to a few co-workers about this last night at dinner. We already are being affected economically, so why not rip the band aid off and close the US off for two to three weeks and let all current cases in the US work itself through without outside influences. We could recover economically fairly quickly versus letting it drag out and more people bringing the virus in and dragging out the impact. Just our thoughts...seems like the Prez has a similar thought
