I came across these while looking for something else (as per usual) and thought I'd share. Not sure if there is any interest on this but figured I'd rather share than keep it to myself. The M1904 Maxim Machine Gun drawing is a Class and Division drawing 51-1-1 original dated July of 1904. I have later revisions and I think I have other detailed drawings in the series but I haven't been able to dig them up yet. Class and Division drawing 51-3 is for the M1915 Vickers Machine Gun and some of these tool drawings pertain to both machine guns. Look at the "drawing pertains to" field on the drawing and you will see "51-1" and sometimes "51-3".

I also came across the tool box and accessories for the M1904 Maxim and other drawings that are listed on the
15-8-3 drawing, rev 12 dated 7-15-1915 (earlier revisions are hard to read and hard to digitize). Drawing 15-18-10 and 15-18-67 show tools that are to be included in the tool box. Each drawing has several revisions, I am only attaching the clearer drawings. Also attached is 15-18-9, the oil can for the M1904 Maxim. Nothing fancy but thought I'd include it too.

As always, these images are compressed so that they fit onto the forum. Contact me if you'd like the non-compressed files.

That answered a bunch of questions I had about which 51 series drawings were which.

The 15 -18 series has a bunch of odd accessories the one I was always trying to find was the 'Night Firing Box" mentioned in some of the Ordnance Committee meetings back in 1919

From what I gleaned from the Ordnance Committee minutes this night firing box was large enough to partially enclose the Model of 1917 as a sort of flash hider/night aiming device. Whatever is was it was not well thought of by " our best machine gun officers" as they complained about it and a bunch of other things like flash hiders and flash signature of the propellant being used at the time.

Hello Gatekeeper,
I am really interested in the drawings showing the tools and contents for the tool boxes and spare parts boxes for the 1904 Maxim, 1915 Vickers, 1917 Browning that you would have time to send.
I know this is a big request and will appreciate anything you can do.
Can't figure out how to PM you so hoping you will see this post and respond.
Thank you,
Bill
