The Johnson sold
The buyer sent me this.
Hope this will clear up some questions
Robbie,
=====================================================

Received both shipments today.

The rifle is exactly what I expected it would be. You did a very accurate job of describing it on Gunbroker. I immediately disassembled it so I can give it a thorough cleaning, lubrication, and inspection before I fire it. Upon removing the forearm stock assembly I discovered a stamped Marine Corps globe and anchor cartouche on the inside of the forearm.

Slightly different results with the bayonet and scabbard. There are very few remaining original Johnson bayonets and scabbards. There weren't that many made to begin with and a high percentage of them were lost or destroyed in combat. Therefore, a number of different people have made reproductions of both. These are very high quality reproductions and it is difficult to tell repros from originals. You have to look very closely at certain details.

I think there is about an 80% chance the bayonet is an original. If not, it is the best reproduction I have yet seen. The only thing that gives me the 20% doubt is the fact that it has a serial number. Johnson never stamped any numbers on their bayonets. However, the Marines are widely known for marking their gear after they received it to suit their own desires. If there is an exception to any rule concerning weapons, it will likely be found on a Marine weapon.

If this bayonet was ever owned by the Marines it is quite possible they could have added the serial number. I can't find anything that says this was their practice, but I can't find anything that absolutely rules it out either.

The scabbard is definitely a reproduction. I'm not concerned about the legitimacy of either one. The rifle is what I wanted. The bayonet and scabbard was icing on the cake.

I have left positive feedback concerning this transaction on Gunbroker. If you are satisfied with my performance, please do the same.

I look forward to receiving information on the M!, and eventually on the M1D's.

Thanks,
Dan

Maybe it sold..
If it is sold, and this guy has intent in posting more, then the courtesy of a reply to each inquiry, and this post, is reasonable. eg: sold pending funds, etc.

Funny, how some other characters (in my life) come back to me with an offer I made back in July (with a specific time expiration a week later) getting back to me this week "I'll take it now". Give me a break. I refused these offers, low ball and not worth my time - that it took them so long to scour the internet and whole Earth, trying to find another deal that would counter mine, and they were unsuccessful. So I pull my item off the market and tell them it is no longer for sale. BUT AT LEAST I HAD THE COURTESY TO REPLY TO THEM AND TELL THEM SO ! I EVEN CALLED THEM LAZY IN THE PROCESS.

I have more than my fair share of Johnson stuff already. It is a nice looking gun and please don't take my comments as any bashing. As pointed out the bayo's were never numbered to the gun. I'm assuming you and any potential buyer would the most info possible so there are no misunderstandings down the road. As for a fair price.......That's always a direct negotiation between you and the buyer and what someone is willing to spend. 5K I think will be difficult, even for an original finish, mint gun right now.

Then on the other hand my buddy just bought a 68K new pick up truck? You'd think a dealer would be sitting on that forever. They claim the sell 3 a month somewhere down in NC? There is still a lot of money floating around this country the gov. has not collected yet.

Let me know when you get to the M14's, or any other NFA stuff though.

To L999 here....
I'm tring to get the max price for the widow.Starting aprox. $5,000

To Johnson LMG....
It is a real nice weapon ..I'm willing to take more PIXS If it would help sell this.
Bayonett is still in the grease... Sheath has a round head rivitt.
Should I clean the brass marks off the gate?

Thanks
Robbie
PS..
The man is a Federal Judge well connected and well liked..
He'll be missed...

PIXS of JohnsonM1941

Finley ,..
I got the chance to get the PIXS on this Johnson.
The man who owned this was a true collector..
In the past, he had brought to me many unusual weapons for repair that he acquired from the USMC Museum at Quantico, Va.
Several flame throwers ,many prototypes, one of a kind that were demilled . I had put back to operating condition.
I know that he had a good relationship with somebody at that Museum to acquire such items.
Possible that some one shared this Johnson with him.
Saw a little brass marks on the ejection/feed door.
I couldn't fine any other signs on that weapon that it was a ever used ,then the brass mark on that door.
I you want more PIXS email me
Thanks

A little advise from someone that helped sell guns for a friend that passed away. A dealer will end up giving you about 50 % of what you can sell it for yourself. If you have the time sell it yourself online or in person to an individual. A dealer has to make a profit and has costs and that comes off your side. As for the Johnson most Military 1941 Johnsons sell retail for around $3500 to $5000. If it has been cut or sporterised you will get from $2500 to $3000. The original bayonets are very expensive $400 maybe I can't remember for sure. There were reproduction bayonets made a few years ago. I would sell the bayonet separate or they will expect you to throw it in for free. There is a 1941 Johnson website that has some good info but it hasn't been updated in a few years so the info might not be current.

www.johnsonautomatics.com

You might consider buying it yourself they are better investments than stocks.

The other part of the equation is the current state of the economy. What it SHOULD bring may not be what it gets in cash offers right now. Does she HAVE to sell it right away?

Serial numbers of rifle never matched the bayonet or sub assemblies from Johnson Automatics. If it has a pine box then my suspicions will be confirmed that it is a Miltec. They go for some money, but they are also reworked. Look at what is out there on Gun Broker and post it accordingly.
